I need help. My toilet clogged and overflowed. Then the chain that connects to the mechanism that flushes the toilet broke.
How do I fix this, as my landlord never repairs anything?
Should I go to Home Depot? Do they sell the chain I need?
And how can I get into to the toilet to remove the clog?
Please help!! I am so stressed. I have 50 million things to do today and this is too much!

1. Home Depot will help you out |
|
You'll need a plumber's helper to unclog it..about 3-4 bucks
The chain should set you back all of a buck or so.
the folks at HD can give you instructions to fix what you need.

2. Home Depot Has The Chain |
|
And plungers to clear the clog. If a plunger dosen't do it, than you will have to snake it out (available at rental outlets) and a dirty, nasty job.

3. This is easy and will cost only a few bucks |
|
Go to Home Depot or Lowe's -- they'll have various packages labelled "Toilet Repair Kit" or some such. Get the one that has only the parts you need.
Then find a toilet plunger which is probably in a different aisle.
Problem solved!

4. Chanins you can get, that's no problem. |
|
The clog, though - do you have a plunger? Have you used it?
If you've plunged and nothing happened, then you need very well to get to the landlord and get it fixed pronto. Tell him if he doesn't, there's gonna be a thousand bucks or more worth of water damage to the floor from you peeing on it and continually flushing even though you know it's gonna overflow.

10. I have had problems before with slumlords |
|
Do you live in a house or an apt?
If it's an apt. he has to fix it but if you live in a house he will stick you with the bill if it's not that big.
Better to fix it on your own like DonG suggested.

12. You need to be assertive. |
|
if you live in an apartment, the freaking landlord has to fix and pay for everything.
Why should you spend YOUR MONEY to fix their toilets, stoves, sinks, light fixtures, and anything else?
So go down there and insist they fix it. Don't take no for an answer.
