Just Finished Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Orientation
Just Finished DNR CO Orientation
Out of 1600 applicants, 200 made it to the Orientation for 30 available Conservation Officer positions with the Department of Natural Resources (Michigan).

It was an interesting non-cross-section of the states population. Most were in their late 20's to mid 30's. There was 2 black men and 3 white women. Of the white guys, there were three types:

1) Young tough guys with buzz cuts.

2) Homer Simpson types. Regular Joes with short haircuts, reasonably good physical shape. I think I'm in this group.

3) Cops who don't want to be cops anymore.

90% of the people were blond or light colored hair, by the way. Very uniform 'types'.

Most had some college.

This one woman I sat next to was 39 years old with 3 kids at home. She was in good shape for her age (more like someone in her late 20's) and had a good attitude.

There was another woman who was a cop with a local police department and couldn't stop talking about her job. Came across as insecure.

Most of the guys there were very sharp and confident.

One fellow was a former Army Ranger in his early 40s. Had a good attitude and was physically fit, but had a spotty past that he was up front about.
