12. Just bought two pair at a garage sale in Portland, OR for $5.00!

One pair is bright orange, the other is lime green. Fabulous! We take them to Hawaii and we're right in style.

14. Hey, I am so 1940s! To prove my point, there was an estate sale

last Thursday. A woman who must have been around 70 years old was selling her costume jewelry and fifty or more hats.

The women were snapping them up at pretty hefty prices! Beautifully made pieces and the hats were just gorgeous. I bought a suede cap and I love it!

they are assembled in a hot, dirty, unsafe factory in a third world country by a twelve year old who might make the equivalent of fifty cents a day for a twelve hour day, if he/she is lucky.

17. There are so many things marked MADE IN CHINA or INDIA

or other "sweat shop" countries, what's a person to do?

My feeling is that we are at least increasing their lifestyle a little bit. We visited the New Territories of China and if they didn't have factory or piece work, they would be unable to support themselves AT ALL.

Of course, I wish things were better. We saw 7 year old children weaving rugs in Egypt in the 1980s and I cried bitterly.

But then, I wish things were better in this country, too. So many people problems and so little time...
