OK...Someone explain the difference between Jimmy Buffett and James Taylor
Both dudes are musicians

Both dudes had ALOT of fun in the 70's

Both dudes had a distinct "pushing the envelope from AM to FM" during the 70's. Anyone over 30 will know what I mean.

Both are very effective at getting boomers to send $$$ to support the environment (this is a good thing)

Both travel around the country, singing folky tunes and smoking pot (this is also a good thing)

Buffett sings Taylor's "Mexico"

Taylor sings Buffett's "Come Monday"

Both are heard extensively in major chain hotel lobbys at a very soft volume

4. James Taylor, regardless of what you think of his songs, is one
hell of a fine guitarist and plays some very unique and unusual licks.

Jimmy Buffet . . . doesn't.

5. Actually I like both of them
But in the same way one might like, say, Maude or Sanford and Son reruns.

8. Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Buffet, I just don't think he's
exactly an excellent guitarist :). Taylor on the other hand is an exceptionally gifted guitarist.

10. Well he does have fun shows
Not musically gifted shows, but fun in an audience participation kind of way.

And he is a serious environmentalist.

11. Ones an alcoholic and the other is a heroin addict.
You for got to mention that they both live on islands. Buffett on Key West and Taylor on Martha's Vineyard.

12. I hate Taylor's songwriting, I love Buffet's
Taylor's songs are too self-indulgent and narcissistic. Buffet's are more fun, less pretentious (usually).

There's a personal reason, too. I'm from the Mississippi Coast, so I thought of Buffet as a local hero, so I like him. And I caught someone cheating on me to a James Taylor album. I disliked him before, but that really made me not want to hear him anymore.

14. There is just something about a boat ride south of the
barrier islands listening to Buffett and drinking a beer and smelling like sunscreen!

Can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon! :smoke:

16. Buffet makes me vomit
Taylor doesn't.

I'm headed to my parent's lake house for the 4th, and every year their neighbor blasts Jimmy Buffet's crappiest hits all day long. It's impossible to tune it out. I can't stand his music.

Jimmy Buffet is a hack and James Taylor is an artist.
