Adventures at the Beethoven/Mendelssohn Concert
We arrived early at the University Concert Hall in order to secure a parking place near the entrance. Some how I manage to lift my wheelchair out of the car trunk. My guest offers no help.

I am exhausted from the effort, sit in the chair and rest. Now I start pushing my wheel chair the long distance, stopping frequently to rest. Finally my guest offers to push me along, I am grateful for the assistance.

We reach the entrance, the doors are not open yet, we must wait thirty minutes in the damp cold. Nature is calling me in a very loud voice. The nearby planters are begining to look pretty good. I wonder if the plants are thirsty.

An older lady slightly over weight is laboring up the concrete stairs leaning on her quad foot cane. She is escorted by an equally elderly companion. The four of us trade small talk. The doors open. I rush in heading to the handicap bathroom, my guest pushing me along. At the rest room stands a woman in her forties or so, she says "My mother is in the bathroom, it is a unisex room." Smiling I say "Oh boy!"

Business done there we wait across from our previous companions from outside the locked doors. It occures to me I was very rude to rush in ahead of them. I debate going to them apologize for my rudness, but decide to leave well enough alone.

In the concert hall my wheel chair and I are parked in the spot reserved for people like me. A beautiful kind young lady fetches a chair for my guest.

A very tall man comes struggling in. He is using arm crutches, braces are visible at his ankles. He selects the seat directly in front of me thru his pants he manipulates levers unlocking the brace joints at his knees, his hips, he becomes flexible eases unsteady into his seat. I want to reach out to him, help him but I do nothing. I just sit there useless in my wheel chair, feeling sorry for myself.

The orchestra is beautiful, the musicians, beautiful, talented in their black tuxedos and gowns. For a little while we are listening to beauty in the world.
