What causes swelling in your body?
I haven't had swelling in my legs and body since I had the gastric bypass surgery and now it's back.

I thought that I had gained weight but I just noticed that I am very swollen. I put my leg against the computer table and it left a large indention in it. I pushed on my feet and belly and the same thing happened and I am swollen.

I thought that this problem went away but it's now back and I am afraid of knowing the reason that it's back.

4. I thought that I had gained so weight a few weeks back
I don't know if it's food or something that I am drinking. It might be my heart because they told me that the swelling was from my heart before my Gastric Bypass surgery.

What scares me is I dropped 150 pounds and the swelling is back.

3. Don't mess around with this one
Call the ER, or go.

Ex-paramedic here; don't try to guess the reason.

5. Maybe it's the Snapples that I drink
Why would it go away and all of a sudden reappear after I have lost most of my weight.

It might be salt.

7. At least make a phone call
you don't want to wake up in the morning and find out you cannot walk because the nerves in your knees are crushed.

to your doctor or to the ER.

6. When I had noticeable water retention
my brother the doctor told me to be sure to rule out heart or kidney problems. Both were fine, and my doctor was puzzled. I later learned through trial and error that it was caused by food sensitivies, but I'm glad I got the heart and kidneys checked out.

9. I have been drinking snapples since by bypass surgery
I think that it might be food so I am trying to find out if anyone else swells up from certain foods.

14. Try the low carb diet!
Sounds crazy, but it worked for me! About the second week on the diet my feet quit swelling! I'd had the same trouble as you have since my bypass 5 years ago and this is the only thing that has worked!

My heart doctor put me on the diet! Ask your doctor about it! I have lost 40 pounds in the last 8 weeks on the Atkins diet! The first week without the sugar is hard to go through, but after that it's not bad! Not nearly as bad as the low fat diet!

10. Edema Due to Advanced Renal Disease
Edited on Mon Nov-03-03 05:35 AM by REP
I take a lot of Lasix (120mg) and I still have pitting edema in my face, hands, arms and legs.

On edit: forgot to mention the new and exciting development of pulmonary edema! Whoo-hoo! Get winded walking to the fucking bathroom!

12. Let me add my voice to those who say "see your doctor!"
If I recall correctly, you have suffered a great deal of trauma this year, which has profound effects on the heart. Get this checked out pronto!

13. go to the doctor now
Are you having any trouble breathing when you are lying down?

I had very similar symptoms and I ended up having congestive heart failure....brought on by post-pregnancy problems...

Got better but going to the ER saved my life.
