Poll question: Are you a lawyer? |
|
I'm wondering how many people on DU are lawyers. So, are you a lawyer?

1. People occasionally think I'm a lawyer |
|
I have a pretty decent vocabulary and I ask a million questions in places like the bank. I've written about legal issues and I can BS my way through a conversation if I have to. (Don't worry -- I don't represent myself as a lawyer when I am BSing.)

2. Sounds like a "sort of" to me... |

I'm wondering about this because I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and go to law school. I'm gonna have to take the LSAT first, and that's gonna take practice (only because of time issues) because I need to get a really good score.
Edited for idiotic grammar.

3. The term, "lawyer" is limiting. I prefer legal advocate. |

13. Well, I suppose it IS limiting |
|
It's limited to those who have been to law school, passed a bar exam, and been admitted to the bar.
There are lawyers who are not actively practicing, but that's another issue.

4. I voted "sorta" because I'm a paralegal. |
|
Which means I get to do all the work & the lawyer gets all the money. Actully, I love my job most days.

5. No but I like them, once one took over$ 2000 off a bill. |

He said it was way to high and he never felt it would go that high. For his hours he should have had it.

One of my friends, who recently passed the bar (and didn't go in -- har de har) thinks I should go to law school.
It's probably because I like to argue and I think most judges are human filth.

10. Hey my Dad's a judge... |
|
actually, retired. He may be a pain in the ass, but human filth is a tad too strong. I know you said most judges, so I'll feel free to exclude him from that group. :)

14. I would call myself one . . . |
|
. . . if I got paid per question. Most new acquaintances, upon hearing I work at a law firm, start to ask legal questions or tell lawyer jokes.
As it is, being a legal secretary, I know that the legal profession would grind to an immediate, earthshaking, pavement-gouging halt if it weren't for us underappreciated and underpaid "mere" staffers.

I use a lawyer to check my work. My lawyer says I'm a better lawyer than my wife's and most people coming out of law school.
