Has anyone been to a Dean Meetup?
A friend's wife is sponsoring one and I'm probably going to go. Wat should I expect? What goes on at these things?

1. mmm mmmm
All the kitten fetuses you can eat!

Get 'em while they're still purring.

:)

Yum!

;)

Nah, nary a kitten's fetus to be had, just some good old fashioned grass roots politickin'.

2. chatting, brainstorming, hyping, getting to know each other
--throwing around ideas for getting the word out

many people might be there for the first time, out of curiosity, so people will want to have little spiels ready for why they support Howard Dean

Here in my town the meetups are when potential new supporters are brought in, the 1st Wednesday of every month. The THIRD Wednesday, there is a nuts-&-bolts meeting of faithfuls (everybody is invited) who implement the plans laid out at the meetups. These hard-cores may or may not come to later meetups but do a lot of work behind the scenes.

3. A chance to organize...
Meet like-minded people.
Vent some steam!
Learn about Dean's stance on various issues. (Yes he has waffled on a few things. But has been very consistent since he started his campaign. Unlike Clark.)
Depending on how many show up, it's like a mini-rally, or a small get-together.

5. You must mean a House Call?
Meet-Ups are only held in public places. There is info at the website. Could be for ideas, etc. I don't think it is a fund-raiser. We had one House Call, and it was fun.

6. She said it's a meetup
It's going to be at a local coffee house. She said it's not a fundraiser and Howard's not going to be there.

9. Ok, she is the host. Gotcha.
The Dean campaign has lists of things that are mailed to local hosts. They give suggestions each month on what to cover. Have a good time!

7. I've been to one, and hope to go again this week.
They talk about how best to get the word out about Dean. They organize canvassing drives (and offer to help w/ nearby states efforts as well (i.e., here in MA our Meet-ups offer us the chance to canvass in NH, for obvious reasons)) and organize other efforts to be a presence at public events.

I liked it very much to see the local college kids showing up to volunteer. There is indeed hope for our future to see kids getting involved in such a positive way. I even took my 16 year old w/ me last time. His shirt "Save the Environment--Plant a Bush Back in Texas" was the hit of the evening.

11. At the one I went to,
all we did was write letters to undecided Democratics in New Hampshire asking them to support Dean in the primary. Very well organized, but not a lot of chit chat and getting to know one and other.
