1. Most of the time, I'm pretty happy, all things considered...
...but there's this nagging feeling of impending doom that freaks me out sometimes.

Oh, and I'd love to get a new job, too. Not despondent about that, but it's something I think about.

3. That impending doom thing is
a real bummer isn't it? At the moment I am noticeably despondent but beginning to come out of it.

4. Yeah, impending doom sucks.
Always kills the party. Who invited him anyway?

2. I hope you didn't vote for 'crushingly'?
I voted for mildly, myself. ;-)

Life can be tough, especially when the entire government appears arrayed against the interests of the vast majority of us. There is little to look up to and say, yes, that's the way things should be!

We have to perservere. There are so many of us; we are bound to prevail eventually.

At least I'm pretty sure we are. :-)

6. More pessimistic than despondent, myself
I am back to the way I felt as a teenager in the 1970s when I thought we were either going to kill ourselves with toxins or annihilate humanity with nuclear weapons. I feel young again!

Exceedingly so while contemplating future prospects as a mainframe programmer where the mainframe's going away

12. Dancing Is The Thing That Keeps Me From Becoming Too Despondent
and it takes a lot of dancing to do it. Did that last weekend and was feeling good.

Then I read about Sen Graham's retirement (leading to the likely pickup of yet
another Senate seat for the evil empire) and got despondent again.

I'd be a lot worse if it wasn't for the drugs.

13. Mildly, from time to time.
The political situation is killing me. I am all right when I avoid the news, Democratic Underground, etc. Lucky for me, my new baby daughter is so wonderful that I am usually pretty happy. Plus I have a great job and nice relationship with my wife and family. I guess I don't have much to complain about but I can't stand what Bush has done to us and to the world.

Most of us are either Cheerfully Despondent or Crushingly Despondent. No normal curve around here!
