Lyrically, he doesn't speak to me at all, and musically I think he's an example of mediocrity.

And TS is absolutely right, Seger is a sweetheart of a human being.

Bruce has a big heart, too. A friend of mine produced Nebraska and a couple other of his albums. He is a pretty solid, standup guy.

It's raw, it's unpolished and it's just the way Bruce is meant to be heard.

I've seen him in concert in the early 80's and in the 90's. The 80's concerts by far are his best because of the unpolished, unscripted sets.

I like Bruce way better than Seger... BUT...

"Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" by the Bob Seger System is one hell of a record.

Not quite as good as "Darkness on the Edge of Town," though, which is the album I picked.

"Born to Run" is ultimate, folllowed closely by "The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle" and "The River."

Then would come "Darkness on the Edge of Town."

I personally love "Greetings from Asbury Park, New Jersey," so that would make my top five.

If you can only buy one, get "Born to Run." It's exuberant, moody, wonderful.

Sorry to break the news to you, but that's the way it was. Once I discovered Talking Heads and the Pretenders, there was no going back to the old album rock that is now called Classic Rock.

I must admit, I still love hearing some of his old material like Rosalita.

18. I love all the bands you mention.

But Chrissie Hynde has struggled to write worthy songs since "Learning to Crawl." Elvis didn't write most of his best songs. The Talking Heads were all about innovation -- they did write a few great songs -- but were nowhere near as prolific as Springsteen. The Clash did write a lot of great music and took it to innovative places that no one of that era, including Springsteen, could match. Yet, they did so for only a few years.

Springsteen is one of the most prolific songwriters of the last thirty years. He did it longer and more consistently than any of the artists you mention. His sound is unmistakable. Copied, but never equaled. To say he was bested by anyone is difficult to argue.

And I fully admit that the Clash are my favorite band of all time.

My interest in music has really waned since the 1980s. College radio is practically gone, and commercial radio has hit the blandest common denominator of classic rock or that 80s/90s music mix. I have not seen that resurgence of vintage artists like Bruce because I have not been looking for it.

Much like the singers in Rush and AC/DC, I just can't take the way his voice sounds. Bugs me at a physical level. It makes me agitated. There are a few voices that effect me this way. It wouldn't matter what he was singing about, the voice makes me kinda physically ill.

This album still gives me goosebumps. Not only the best Bruce album (I can't get into much of his post Born To Run stuff), but IMO one the great albums period.

21. "Nebraska" is the best because it's stripped of all the bombast...

and you can hear his great songwriting. And those songs are very good.
