looking for a good freeware DVD player software
Cyber PowerLink DVD came with my laptop, but it's now all screwy. I can still play DVDs through Windows Media Player, but I don't like the silver bars which are on the screen, even in 'full-screen' mode.

I like a nice black screen, with nothing but the movie on it.

Does anyone know of a good third-party player software?

Make sure that the little pin on the top bar of Media Player Is turned horizontal, the bars will go away If you put the pointer to the side. Don't put the pointer on the bars.

3. I like PowerDVD
Cyberlink? I've got the XP version on a computer running W98, and it does fine for me (if I keep up with the defrag). I'm waiting for the 1.0 version of Mplayer to come out, so I can run it on Linux. I've got 0.9x burned to disk, but I couldn't get it to work out.

4. I like the Cyberlink, too...
I can't find my restore CD, so I can't reload it.

Oh well, WMP will do for now...

5. Funny story...
I was trying to run 28 Days Later on my XP machine. It just came out with 3 different endings so I rented it from Blockbuster.

Anyway it turns out that windows media player now supports DVD format so I gave it a shot. I pop it in, try to run it, and media player gives me an error "This DVD is copyright protected" and the program terminates.

But I just rented the stupid thing! God.

6. XP sucks
That's the big thing I didn't like about it. Bill Gates seems to want to take decision making power away from you. Doesn't matter that you're supposed to be the super user, with Windows you don't have that right. Windows is the super user, since Microsoft knows what a dumbass you are. After all, you bought their software, didn't you?

7. InterActual
I bought Matrix Reloaded, and put it in my DVD-ROM drive. It had a free viewer called InterActual included. I also have a DVD viewer called InterVideo, which came with my unit.

Look through your collection for a DVD with web content (particularly from Warner Brothers). It's not the best, but it works, and it's free.
