Who is turned off by tattoos and piercings?
I find these "decorations" really revolting. I mean, an ear piercing is ok, but in the tounge or nose or god knows where else?

I like them. I love them. I want some more of them.

They don't look good on all people, but for the ones that they do look good on.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. It's the "god only knows what else" that really makes me a happy guy.

I hold the same opinion on a lot of thing.

...women with a bellybutton ring turns me on a lot. And 1 or 2 tatoos don't hurt...but when it gets to be all over like 1/2 the body, it tends to be extreme.

Some people look really good; some people don't. Also, I think tattoos and piercings CAN be overdone. I think moderation is the key. :-)

I like my one and only facial piercing (eyebrow). Also love my tats. I think NWA summed up my feelings on the issue best, when they said "you don't like how I'm living then *#&^ YOU!"

"Clean cut" people creep me out, but I've never started a Lounge thread to tell 'em so.

That being said, I really dig unusual tattoos/piercings/brands. I just have a distaste for the "status quo" type of tattoos. "Hey! Look at ME!"

I think you are misunderstanding me. i know many people with tattoos, i like the people they are and don't judge them by what they do to their bodies.

I feel they LOOK trashy, i never said the person was. don't assume i go running away from anyone with a tattoo or a ring up thier ass or whatever they need to do to be an "individual". what you do with yourself is your business.

14. My 20-yr old twins
both have tattoos. Son and daughter. And my daughter has ear, nose, and tongue piercings. It doesn't bother me. My son is a Marine and my daughter is a junior at a small liberal arts college. I told her when she got her first tattoo (she has 3) not to get anything that would show in a bridesmaid dress. We'd just been to an elaborate wedding and one of the bridesmaids had this big tattoo on her back. What was particularly distracting was the way the dress cut across the tattoo so you couldn't figure out what it was. I wasn't thrilled about my kids getting tattoos but, as a liberal, progressive person, I believe I don't own their bodies. They do. And I truly believe there are more important issues in life. They're both kids who work hard, are kind to people, and are self-reliant.

57. It's been a very positive experience
for my daughter and for us. It's a very contained, safe, idyllic environment. Personally, I preferred the diversity of a large state university. But Berry is the school my daughter chose. She likes knowing everyone (she went to a very large high school) and taking part in many activities. Also, the students do much of the work at Berry, continuing the school's original tradition of being for the "mountain" kids who wanted higher education. My daugher worked two years in food service at the snack bar and is now working on the grounds crew.

Some times they are over done / just not right - I generally think a small symmetric back tattoo is a turn on.

18. I like them.
I think piercings are lovely, and have seen some gorgeous tattoos. My daughter has her belly button pierced, though I haven't given her the okay to do a tongue piercing or tattoo. She'll have to decide that for herself when she's 18, being that these are more permanent and intensive procedures.

I've seen people with their entire face pierced. To each his own. Many people seem to feel that piercings and tattoos are a very important part of self-expression. I admire a person who doesn't run with the pack and does something different and even a bit edgy in order to show his/her individuality.

65. A tongue piercing is the *least* permanent one
The tongue is the only tissue on the body that will heal without a trace.

A little Ould History: Ancient Medicine Men used to "prove" that they had Magick Powers by pulling a rose, complete with the thorns, through holes they'd made in their tongues. Said their advance men, if the Medicine Man's tongue is completely healed in three days, he is a Magical Man.

Under those circumstances, anyone could be a Magical Man--three days is a little on the long side for minor trauma to the tongue to heal. If you remove a tongue ring, it will completely heal within hours.

A navel piercing, OTOH, is a very permanent procedure. Your navel sits at one of your body's hinge points, so it's always in motion--exactly what a healing piercing does not need. A year is about what it takes to heal a navel piercing.

I have a permanent ankle bracelet of flowers and last summer I finally got the courage to get a "wrap around" on my left arm (around the bicep). It is up high enough that if I need to cover it, I can. I get alot of compliments but as the mother of 4 there are some parents who don't find it "fashionable". I will not get anymore as I don't want to over do it.

23. Depends...
I personally have 5 tattoos and 6 holes in each ear (no big gauges, but not standard ones). They're all well-done. I'm attracted to people with other well-done tattoos & piercings.

However, if it's a faded out piece of flash crap tattoo of a heart or something or a nasty looking piercing then it's unattractive.

26. When it's excessive I'm not crazy about it. I remember this one photo...
... of some fellow from uglypeople.com who had hundreds of facial piercings and smudged tattoos all over his face. Now THAT was excessive.

But... in general, I have nothing against them.

I think tattoos are sexy. I love body art that's done well. I've seen some nicely done tattoos that looked so precise and delicate as though they were airbrushed on. BUT... I'm partial to the monotone one color, black ink tattoos. The Polynesian or Pacific Islander style of traditional tattoos are my favorite.

If I ever got the nerve, that's what I'd get for myself. (Easy to say... but harder to do.)

3) once the rest of me is saggy and wrinkly, big deal
4) I use sunscreen on them religiously to keep them from fading
5) I did not go with anything "trendy" or "cutesy" - I wanted things that meant something to me now and still will years down the road.

40. If they are excessive
Many piercings are distracting. When someone has their tongue pierced, I cannot help but stare at their tongue the whole time when they are talking. I generally think more than one face, non ear, piercing, is unttractive and distracting. I don't think that I would have had sex with someone with genitel piercings. I would be afraid of getting hurt or hurting them. Small tattoos on any part of the body except face are alright as long as they are in good taste. They should not cover ones entire arm or leg though. That's just my opinion. Personally, I don't have any tattoos and I let my ear piercings that I got when I was four grow shut.

45. Tattoos
The thing I would dislike about tattoos for myself is their permanence. How much does someone's taste in art change over time? Would you decorate your house in the same way when you're 39 as you did when you were 19? I used to have some really silly psychedelic posters on my walls when I was 16. I thought they were "cool". I'm glad I'm not WEARING them on my body. Just a thought.

I also know that it can hurt your career. I've sat on hiring boards that specifically passed people over for jobs simply because they had a brow ring, tongue stud, or visible tatoo. I've objected in every case (I typically interview for backend technical jobs where looks don't matter), but I've always been overruled. Most people don't like them and mistrust people who would "mutilate" themselves like that. I think it's ugly, but wouldn't think about denying people employment because of it.

53. UGH, can't stand anything but ear piercings
other piercings and tattoos are just so over done with people who are trying to be cool that they are now merely common. :spank:

because they're so cliche now.

I love piercings tho. I have two cartilage piercings, and my eyebrow piercing got ripped out, but it left a sweet scar.

59. I saw a fellow with facial tattoos... it was like he had a rose garden
with satanic symbol drawn all over his face. Now that is his decision, but I think that it will rather limit his options in life.

it makes me wince to look at them. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

63. Lessons in moderation
I like a guy w/ a pierced ear, and even a tatoo or two, but I can't get into genital piercings or entire backs and arms covered in tatoos.

so sayeth GOP, and agree. When they get to be, you know, 90% of a person's body, it's too much for me. I love the au naturel body, myself.

Some tats and piercings are quite beautiful. I just don't want to see piercings in any place that looks painful to acquire because I feel it when I look at them. Not a turn on there.

edit: This is an academic debate for me anyway. I do have plenty of surgical scars. So, I'm not anxious to experience pain in a fun way.

72. I quit dating a guy cause he told me his thing was pierced
I don't mind Tattoos or Piercings provided that they are enhancements and not a way of life (Enhancements being a few here or there whereas a way of life is having a bulk of your body either pierced and/or tattooed).

But some piercings I'm just simply won't tolerate especially guys who pierce their, um, ah, penis. Maybe you're a guy with one and you love it. Maybe you or your partner enjoys the feel of it. But I am simply NOT interested in experimenting with something like that.

BTW - I knew he had the piercing in his penis because when I didn't believe him he showed it to me. Talk about a major major turnoff!!!

73. The movie Pulp Fiction solidified my attitude about piercings
Particularly tongue piercings.

A Lesbian co-worker got some fancy big wavy chunk of gold piercing through her tongue. It gave her a significant lisp, and I could hardly keep from cracking up every time she spoke.

74. I don't mind a small tat here and there
but when it gets out of control I lose interest.

I don't like obnoxious piercings either; especially on the face. I find them so distracting. I've found I just can't take a person seriously who is all mutilated. I don't listen to what they are saying as I'm constantly thinking about how uncomfortable it must be to have all that shit stuck in your face.

75. I'm noncommittal....
...about other people, that is. A tattoo or two doesnt bother me, nor does a piercing or two.
For myself, its a different story though. I have no tattoos or piercings (except for my ears) and I never would.
Mostly, I just dont understand the desire to decorate yourself that way. My ears were pierced when I was a baby, but if they hadnt been, I dont think I would ever have had it done.

Funny piercing story:

I hired a chef once. Young guy, fresh out of culinary. I kind of liked his attitude - a real live wire - which is usually a huge plus in the frenetic pace of a busy restaurant. On his first day I handed him over to one of the other chefs for training and the two of them were having a good old time, laughing and getting along famously. I began to get the feeling there was a bit too much fooling around going on, so I took a walk down the sautee line, just to see what I could see. Everything seemed normal, they were getting their work done, etc., so I kept on going into the walk-in fridge. When I came out, the new guy was standing right in front of me and said, "Hey Kath, look what I can do" He lifted up his apron to show me that he had the head of his penis pierced with some sort of rod thing, and he had hung a saucepan on it and was swinging it back and forth. :wow:
I wanted to laugh, but I just smiled and said "Very impressive. I hope thats a skill that they find necessary at the job you're going to be looking for, because I'm afraid you're out of here"

I gotta give the guy points for creativity, but none for brains. :dunce:

80. Who is turned off by social conformists who are judgemental,
narrow-minded and rude? What earthly business is it of ANYONE else's what I do with my body?

I have six tattoos. They are all artistic, meaningful to me, and well done. I got the first one when I was 40 years old; this is not some juvenile fad. I am personally very offended by this thread and some of the extremely judgemental posts on it; I thought for a minute I was on lucianne.com. Social conformity is fascism. Should we all look identical, as if we were cut from the same cookie-cutter mold?

What if I started a thread saying, "who is turned off by people who wear suits" or "men who shave their faces"? Wouldn't that be judgemental, divisive, and rude? I think it would.

I find conformity for its own sake frightening and revolting.

If you don't like tattoos and piercings, don't get any, and MYOGB. Our entire society would be a better place if people would learn to stop judging others on appearances. How shallow and childish.

81. It Used to be when someone had a tattoo
that you knew they were a bad ass, maybe in prison at one time, or in the service. Now, everyone seems to have them, so how do you keep the badasses straight? I work around rich kids in Medical School. Not having a tattoo seems to be the exception. It's a fad and a fashion statement. There is always a ritual element in traditional societies when getting pierced or tattooed, which scarcely exists in USA 2003. In this groundless culture, it's all about putting forth the right/popular/cool image.

They ain't my bag. Tattoos can be okay, (those tattos above the butt can be really hot, but they are extraordinarily commonplace) but I generally find peircings hideous. But to each his or her own. They're harmless.
