Oh. My. God. Pink Floyd.
Just saw their Live8 performance for the first time. Holy shit I am blown away. They were just magnificent.

Sorry that this is repetitive. I've read the posts about their performance here all week, and, having just seen it for myself, I have to agree with everyone else. Wow.

1. That was AMAZING!!!
Many of the Live 8 performaces were great, I'm glad MTV 'got it' that their coverage last week sucked!!!

My faves: Floyd, The Who, McCartney, Madonna, Green Day, Audioslave!!!

13. I had the sad task of explaining the Who to my daughter.
She's 13. When she heard them play Don't Get Fooled Again, she decided they were 'good people' because that is the theme song to CSI.
I had to tell her that the Who were around WAY before CSI.

Sigh.

Kids these days...

3. Roger Waters looked like he was having the time of his life.
He's got some bridges to build, I hope he does.

10. Is there anywhere I can get a synopsis of the whole Waters thing?
I'm only marginally aware of the bad blood, and I'd like to know more. (I've always liked Floyd, but I didn't keep up on the specifics of the split).

4. I was trying to play along with the solos on "comfortably numb"
since I have been practicing those for weeks. Almost had it right, but then he started improvising at the end of the second one. :-) Great stuff. One of my favorite songs of all time.

26. That end solo in Comfortably Numb will be spoken of in awed, hushed tones
for generations to come.

Gilmore got out of the way and let God speak.

I must see that again.

Are they streaming it somewhere?

21. My first concert ever. Pink Floyd Animals tour. 1977
Soldier Field, Chicago.

They played ALL of animals. ALL of wish you were here. Then ended with Time and Money, if memory serves.

Amazing show!

22. I saw the same show in the same year ('77)
at Milwaukee County stadium, just up the lake a bit from you all. Nice show to see for your very first concert. Loudest sound I ever heard was when they blew up the pig and dog balloons tethered to the stage. Wow! :nuke: :nuke:

27. Well, considering it was a Pink Floyd concert in 1977
that sort of goes without saying (the "joint" part, not necessarily the "first" part). ;-) I think it was the only outdoor concert I have ever been to where you could get high just breathing the smoke in the air.

28. No doubt...
I was 16, just got my license, and my neighbor who drove was too trashed to drive, so i drove his 1970 Cougar XR-7 home that night.

I remember people tossing M-80's over the crowd, bottle rockets flying up at the pigs and dogs, Watermelons being tossed around, huge beachballs, etc.

Very surreal night.
