How important is truth?
Is it just as important for you to tell the truth as it is for others when they tell you something?

Is it just as important to tell the truth to strangers as to your Grandmother?

1. Interesting question
the truth is not told often, due to people thinking it is impolite.

This is a philosophical question you ask, I'm not sure if the world would be better off if people did tell the real truth.

2. Sometimes

I think one should tell the truth to his/her family over strangers.

yes...the truth is something that everyone should strive for.

The only way to break lies is to tell the truth.

And that's what Democrats will have to do against the Republicans.

3. Man..
...I always tell the truth, whether someone gets mad at me or not. I just say it like it is, no sense beating around the bush.

4. my truth isn't always yours
and that leads to Plato's question "What is truth?"

A meaningless question at best, unfortunately, since Truth doesn't have a proper definition.

The worst is when some friend expects you to lie for them, or to back up their lie...ugh.

7. It depends
I used to think that complete honesty was the best policy. I think that it is true if you have a good relationship with that person and that they can accept what you have to say. Sometimes, it is better to omit certain details and not say things that will hurt people's feelings. Sometimes, saying certain things that are untrue get to more the truth of the matter than the actual facts. Sometimes, it is better to ease people into the truth. Sometimes when I say I can accept the truth, I get all emotional and wonder if I really wanted to know the truth. Some things are better left unsaid. I am still formulating an opinion on this. I usually answer truthfully if asked a direct question, but the truth, meaning telling correct facts and opinions, don't always set you free. It is naive to think otherwise as I have unfortunaly learned.

8. It's better to know and/or tell the truth...
...than sit there all your life wondering.

10. Truth is a religion. Your are free to practice it, and choose how.
And, free to allow others to practice truth in their own way.

If you and your grandmother or even strangers share the same truth-religion, then be truthful with them. To other whomevers, expounding your religion to them sometimes works, sometimes it's like speaking two languages where neither of you understand each other's.

So, the importance relates to the sameness of the religions involved.
