Poll question: John Cougar, John Mellencamp, John Cougar Mellencamp - who sucks more? |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 10:36 PM by Rabrrrrrr
The Pink Cadillac thread made me think of that awful Little Pink Houses, and the whole John Cougar/whatever phase that America sadly went through in which he was worshipped as musical and having something worthwhile to say.
Yeah, I know, he's a raging liberal, blah blah blah. I'm sure he's wonderful as a person.
But let's be honest - this man should have never sold an album, let alone had the popularity and the nation's ear in the way that he had it.
:puke:
I hated him the first time. And still hated him just as much through every name change, every look change, and every new MTV remake of the asshole.

11. Well, shit, i support him as a fellow liberal |
|
But a person's politics doesn't put their art out of the bounds of critique. Nor does it mean that one has to exclude their art.
The art stands on its own.

|
John Cougar's music, John Cougar Mellancamp's music, or John Mellancamp's music which sucks more?

Not in those words, but that I'm talking about the artist, not the person.

22. and righties who make great art - like Bruce Willis |
|
and, while he's not any kind of genius, Ted Nugent fucking JAMS!
At least he did on Double Live Gonzo! Holy shit!
Though truthfully, I haven't listened to anything else by him since then.
I don't understand at all why people say "I like this artist because he/she holds my political views". Who fucking cares??!?!?!!!!??!
The conservative fucking shitwits love Kinkade because he espouses their dangerous marriage of American patriotism with Christ's Church; but Kinkade still sucks as an artist. And, in his case, as a human being. But I wonder if the conservative useless fucks could be shown what a vapid and empty artist Kinkade is, if they'd still like him, no matter how many fucking flags he wraps around the cross.

John is a screaming liberal who has written and recorded more than one anti/Bush-Iraq war song.
Go easy on the guy.

Overhyped, sure. Arrogant, in the extreme. Bad haircut in 80s, didn't we all. But some of his music holds up very well - particularly the consecutive albums of "Uh Huh," "Rain on the Scarecrow" and "Lonesome Jubilee."
Even if you hate his singles and his videos, check out some deeper cuts like "Golden Gates" and "Hotdogs and Hamburgers" and tell me there isn't something good there.

I'll take John Mellencamp over Bruce Springsteen any day of the week. I like how he talked out against the chimp too. Takes some balls to do that as a guy who wants to sell records.

entire CD.
I like her intent, but I can't go with her execution it for long.
But yes, there is a lot that I like. I like music that's well done, that isn't cliche, that's creative, that's unique, that has integrity, and that is willing to experiment and try to push the level of the genre.
I don't see Mellenhead doing any of that.
Bjork kind of does some of them.

For the best of BJORK, listen to the Sugarcubes. The music was better with the band than before she went solo. I actually owned the John Camp Cougarmelon cassette "Uh_Huh" back in the day. I think it was his most rocking album, as I recall.
