Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Barbara?
I mean, really. Who does this describe?

<http://www.nytimes.com/2003/11/04/health/04FETA.html?pagewanted=2>

Dr. Ann P. Streissguth, the director of the fetal alcohol and drug unit at the University of Washington and a professor at the medical school there, ticked off a list: "These included attention problems, hyperactivity, learning problems — particularly in arithmetic — language problems, memory problems, fine and gross motor problems, poor impulse control, poor judgment, intellectual deficits and difficulty integrating past experience to plan and organize future behavior."

1. Facial characteristics of severe fetal alcohol syndrome...
Small eyes, close together, wide upper lip. Yep. I think you are on to something.

4. The face is affected by drinking in the first trimester.
The brain problems come from drinking in the second and third. That's why people who only go by the obvious facial affects may miss the more important mental indications.

This inability to see consequences that afflicts affluent upper-class Republicans, is it the result of the cocktail party country club culture they enjoyed from the 1920s on?

5. Have they made up mind that it can be in the mans genes and
pass to the child. I feel sure they used to think it was the mother's drinking problem that did it, and these are new things just coming out. Oh, I did not read that item, and it may be in there.

6. The tendency to alcoholism can be inherited from either parent.
But FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) can only occur if the mother drinks during pregnancy.

10. Actually, the eyes of FAS kids tend to be farther apart than normal...
...with a very flat space in between and a low nasal bridge.
