1. Thanks to CBS we can't even vote with our remotes. |
|
Didn't I read they have pulled the show?
I'm not a big fan of boycotts. I'm a bigger fan of educating people and allowing them to decide what to watch, wear, listen to, etc...
By the way, when you were a kid, were YOU the remote control? I was. My dad would send me up to change the channel. :-)

But then we only had 3 network channels, and a local independent station. (Nobody watched PBS much back then). So it wasn't all that bad...

I have no problem with boycotts! Conservative "artists", many of whom attacked we anti-War advocates had not problem supporting the boycott of the Dixie Chicks! The reality is that conservatives have a stronger desire to get what they want then liberals do! I have no problem boycotting conservative artists: if this is the game that they want to play then we should "play it back to them"!

9. These are the same people who.. |
|
.. criticize others for blasting Mel Gibson's upcoming movie before it is even released. Then they just get wind of the script for the Reagan's and went out to kill it before it could see the light of day. They do not want anything criticial of Reagan to come out, though I have to wonder what CBS was thinking. James Brolin as Ronald Reagan? That is going to piss off alot of Conservatives. CBS is stupid for not seeing this firestorm coming.
I wonder if Fox News or others would object to a made for TV movie on Clinton in the near future? Oh yeah, there was "Primary Colors".

That reminded me of a favorite quote: "mmmmmmm -- one hundred forty-four slices of american cheese" --Homer Simpson
I get so sick of people who think that we have to filter content before it gets to peoples homes. The same thing applies to the "F-word" in prime time. "Do we have to protect our kids from prime time?" said the headline on TV.
Well... no... but you do have to actually participate in your children's lives, and not plop them in front of a TV as a babysitter so you can go do whatever.
sorry.. didn't mean to deviate there.. but I get irritated

5. Well, some conservative assholes can't grasp that simple concept. |
|
This is rant time.
I get sick of that idiotic bullshit. Some fundie ultra wing group will complain about some upcoming show they deem "offensive" (usually anything with a gay theme) on network television...of course, without even seeing it. They make a big stink about it...lo and behold, no show.
The networks aren't in the business of raising children. That's the PARENTS responsibility. If you don't like what's coming into your living room...CHANGE THE CHANNEL. There's hundreds of cable channels out there...quite a few targeted to family viewing.
"The Reagans" debacle illustrates this perfectly.
And, BTW. There was quite a hue and cry over the cancellation of the "Dr Laura" show by some right wingers. Because of censorship. But, they certainly have no problems with censorship when it suits THEIR interests.
End of rant. Thank you.

7. But even if they weren't to watch |
|
other people still might. And they can't, just can't have anyone thinking that Reagan was anything other than the second greatest person to ever live. You can't let reality warp the minds of those who don't know. We should all just shut up and praise Jes...I mean Reagan. So the lesson is, Reagan was a great great great great man, and anyone that has anything even minorly critical to say about him, hates America.

I think you just hit on the single most important distinction between conservatives and liberals. We can both have disagreements over policy, religion, sex, morality, decency, money etc...
But, conservatives insist that everyone else not only acknowledge that their opinion is superior, but the they also insist that their beliefs be forced upon the rest of the populace through the mandate of law.
Liberals have a live and let live, and we have a we can agree to disagree mentality. I have no problem with the beliefs of conservatives (if you want to go through your life deluding yourself, go ahead), I just hate the way they try to force everyone to live their life as they would have them do it. And using the law to force it upon people.

of a letter to the editor I wrote about 12 years ago (just out of college) to the Virginian-Pilot. Some woman had written complaining about the horrible scantily-clad people on some TV show. I got so pissed I said the same thing: change the channel or turn it off!
