Do you know much about US immigration
I am a 24-year-old, no criminal record, and I've had all my shots.

I was looking at some journalism positions in the US today. If I was to apply and be accepted. Would I be able to get a visa very easily? And how quickly?

1. Are you white?
That will get you in easily.

Also, the backlog is huge. You might have to wait a couple of months.

4. now's not a great time
to get a job in journalism.

But if you're going to, try this site - www.journalismjobs.com

I know this doesn't answer your immigration question, but I thought I'd be helpful anyway.

10. Actually, you may have a problem getting in
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 06:51 PM by Xithras
You can't apply for a Green Card, because Canadians are excluded from that.

You can't apply for an H1-B, because journalism isn't considered a "shortage industry".

You can't apply for an L-1 unless you work for a company that also has Canadian offices.

Canadians don't qualify for J visas, you're not a treaty worker so you can't get an E visa

You can't get a TN-1 (special visa just for visiting Canadians) because Journalism isn't on the list of approved industries.

It seems to me that you'd either have to just get a visitors visa and keep your stay under six months (many employers also won't hire people on visitors visas), or apply for permanent residency (a process that can take years).

If I'm wrong on this, someone please correct me, but getting a job and getting in here quickly doesn't look very feasible :-(

12. LOL!
As a Californian I can attest to the huge number of people who have done exactly that. You'll have a heck of a time getting any job above minimum wage though :\
