My son helped me vote today - Do your kids go to vote with you? |
|
I haven't been feeling really well due to bronchitis so my husband drove me to the polls where I would be normally working.
My litte boy came in with me to watch and he asked if we would vote against Bush... I told him next year.
However I showed him how to vote and he pulled the curtain back when we were done with the big ole red lever..
I think it is important to share this experience with my kids

He thinks it totally normal for kids to go vote. He always gets my "I voted today" sticker, too.

One election day when he had just turned three, I told him we were going to vote that evening. He got really excited and started rambling on about "voting on the moon." (That's how I heard it anyway...) He went on and on about it all day, but I didn't know what the heck he was talking about until I finally realized he thought I had said, "floating." Poor little guy... He was really into astronauts at the time, and had some high hopes for that evening!

what a cute story!
My little gal, asleep in car with Dad while my boy and me voted, gets really mad because she wants to vote too!

I have actually been (lurking) around for quite a while (couldn't have survived the 2002 elections results without DU... and barely did, at that!)... but I rarely (as you can see) post. I HAVE been to a couple of DU gatherings at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, though... and I'm looking forward to the next one!
My son also complains about not being old enough to vote, yet. He's five and always desperate to know the exact age when he can finally do certain things, like... use the garbage disposal!

I recall last primary this poor fellow who was so old and he had horrible problems walking in to vote. Meanwhile his teenage grandson who drove him there wasn't even registered.

He's 11 and asked to go. I told him why I was writing in candidates rather than vote for unopposed republicans of which we had several. I also showed him how to check for chads that are hanging, etc.!

Actually, I voted by myself this year, but I think it's the first time in 11 years I didn't have a child with me. It shouldn't be a mystery to them. Just another part of life that they need to learn about.
