for MPEG2 and MPEG4 storage?

I'm seriously looking into getting a Panasonic set-top DVD recorder and--between the two models that I'm interested in--this seems to be the only major difference except for onboard memory for recording shows.

What use would a built-in SD card slot for MPEG2 and MPEG4 storage be?

the DVD. Many of them use SD cards.

2. Is there any way around that if I don't get one with SD slots
and I want to record from a digital camera later?

3. Video and still digital cameras probably the only reason
for SD card.

I have a question for you though, as I'm just starting to compare models. It seems that Panasonic models won't record in DVDRW so every DVD is a throw away afterwards. My other issue is getting a format that could be played on my laptop DVD player when I travel. I don't know if these are issues for you, but just thought I'd ask.

5. That's a good source.. thanks
Boy, I have a lot of "learning to do" though.

Damn why do we have to have so many competing formats?
