Why would I want a DVD recorder with built-in SD card slot? |

for MPEG2 and MPEG4 storage? I'm seriously looking into getting a Panasonic set-top DVD recorder and--between the two models that I'm interested in--this seems to be the only major difference except for onboard memory for recording shows. What use would a built-in SD card slot for MPEG2 and MPEG4 storage be? http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CompareModels?storeId=11251&catalogId=11005&catGroupId=11058&surfCategory=DVD%20Video%20Recorders&items=65165|63096|63388|63384|63194|63193|63394|63387|

1. More likely so you can record directly from a digital camera, right to |

the DVD. Many of them use SD cards.

2. Is there any way around that if I don't get one with SD slots |
|
and I want to record from a digital camera later?

3. Video and still digital cameras probably the only reason |

for SD card.
I have a question for you though, as I'm just starting to compare models. It seems that Panasonic models won't record in DVDRW so every DVD is a throw away afterwards. My other issue is getting a format that could be played on my laptop DVD player when I travel. I don't know if these are issues for you, but just thought I'd ask.

Boy, I have a lot of "learning to do" though.
Damn why do we have to have so many competing formats?
