2. What was the midterm about, and what did you miss to not get an A?
Are there some questions that you just had to go "DOH!" when you saw how you answered them wrong?

3. the midterm was about the president's foreign policy approach

It was an essay----and the professor was new to my college. He's a bit of a sanctimontious a-hole. In class before he passed the midterms out, he kept on harping about how terrible most people's essays were, and read out a few bad essays to the class. He even wrote on the board all the most commonly misspelled words.

People tuned out during that class. College kids don't like being scolded or ranted at. That's what the professor did. He was shrill and stringent. You should've seen him rant. It was like he'd never come across bad collegiate essays before.

I bet with time, he'll stop critiquing all the essays, just give a brief run-down, and suggest we go to the writing center. That's what most professors do.

4. Why don't you drop out, get divorced twice, blow up to 300#, and then get
your own radio show (and big$$$) by convincing everybody what a genius you are? And maybe throw in a stint in rehab, just to show your vulnerable side. Oh wait, that's been done already. Sorry:spank:

7. I can't be in a radio show, I'm deaf
So that pretty much defeats the point of becoming a radio host.

12. Not necessarily.
Calls can be transcribed. You could take e-mail questions only.

Or, just go on extended rants, and never take calls. :D

22. Do you know ASL
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 01:03 PM by LincolnMcGrath
One of my best friends son is deaf. (3% hearing) He and his wife refused to teach Kris (the son)ASL and more or less force him to read lips. Kris learned sign on his own in high school to communicate w/other hearing impared. His speech is amazing to me, he cannot hear a car horn while his head is under the hood. Teaching Kris and his H I friends to wakeboard and ski was a true joy to me.

23. No, I don't know ASL
I was taught in an oral school where they emphasized speech. I have a cochlear implant so I can hear others very well and carry conversations with them for hours except in an extremely loud restaurant where it's just shouting over the din.

24. I lost about
35-40% percent of my hearing in my old job. I can relate to the loud-restaurant-thing.

8. It's a women's college
No guys had their hands up. We were all overworked from midterms, and a lot of us slept through the professor's tirade.

I'm sick of how professors forget we have other midterms to write and act as if their midterms are the only ones we're doing.

10. It seems to be a rule in academia.
Each professor must believe that his or her subject and specialty is the MOST IMPORTANT @#$%&* THING YOU WILL EVER LEARN, and that everything else is just a colossal waste of time. Academics have to believe that, or else they can't get out of bed in the morning.

(looks about sheepishly, steps off of soapbox)

11. ha, it's academia megalomania
some professors I know are absolutely convinced that they're the best experts ever, and won't even listen to other dissenting viewpoints.

This professor I have is new, and freshly out of grad school......no wonder why he has a bad case of that.

That's one reason why I had to bail out of that field. ;-)
