Week 9 Dallas Cowboy thread |
|
Well, it was very ugly on Sunday, but the Cowboys were able to pull out a win against the Skins. The youth of this team concerns me so much, but how they came back to win was somewhat of a positive. Consider this:
4 turnovers in the first half, three of those on the first three offensive possessions.
Terry Glenn dropping balls left and right, and contributing to one of QCars picks.
Two touchdowns called back because of penalties - one the opening kickoff returned 101 yards.
It was ugly in every sense of the word, and as Parcells said, Dallas made enough mistakes to lose several games.
The Cowboys are a minus 7 on turnovers the last two games, and this should be a big concern. Dallas won't win again if it is minus 4 on the turnover side.
Which comes to this week. All along, I've been thinking this should be a win. But if Dallas comes out as shaky as last week, then they're in for a long day. One thing really bothers me about this. Buffalo will be the third team to be playing Dallas coming off a bye week. So in essense, they have had a chance to work on Dallas for a couple of weeks. Detroit and Washington also had bye weeks, and we saw what happened there. But Buffalo is a much more credible opponent this week.
Prediction - Dallas win, simply because it is a home game. Things are going to start getting pretty tough with New England the following week on the road, so Dallas needs to take care of business when it can.
I look forward to some of the more mature critics who always have something intelligent to say (Vermont Dem, for example). But if you're here to say something "witty" such as "Dallas sucks" or "they're all druggies" then please take it somewhere else.

1. Dallas' offensive line injuries would worry me. |
|
But their defense is playing well enough to keep them in games. This'll be a close game - could go either way.

3. You're right - this could be their biggest crisis |
|
Lot's of reshuffling going on. What was looking as something of a strength a few weeks ago (at least a great improvement) is starting to look like the liability it was last year.
Okay boys, tape it up and get back out there!

I'm going to play the over-hyped, overconfident fan this week, and say the Cowboys are super-bowl bound!!!
Ok, so it's a couple of years early to be saying that, but I haven't been able to in almost a decade. So..I feel better now.

4. Well, Kusula, you are overly optimistic |
|
But it has been fun, hasn't it? I was just thinking how bad the Campo years were, and that it had been a long time since the Boys had won anything. Then I remembered that Dallas won the east in 99. But of course, to us, just winning a division isn't the utmost for a Cowboy fan. Only Superbowls is what we look at (but it won't be this year).
Keep up the optimism, and yes, Parcells has become a deity.

5. Parcells has good record against former teams and players |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 11:31 AM by jobycom
Bledsoe was one of his creations, and the only time Bledsoe has lived up to his tremendous potential was under Parcells. Which means Parcells knows what makes him tick.
Parcells has been scheduled to play the Giants, the Jets, Buffalo (with Bledsoe) and Tampa Bay (with Keshon Johnson) all in his first year. On top of that he STILL has not played a good team at the top of their game. The league could not have given him a better schedule if they'd planned it that way.
On the other hand, Philadelphia, the Jets, Atlanta and Tampa were supposed to be good, but aren't. Further proof of what Meredith said-- we are God's favorite team! :-)
On edit: Forgot prediction: Damn, can't decide. Cowboys are luckiest of the two, and better coached, and at home. Should win. But they've won so many games they should have lost that it's hard to pick for them, anyway. But I will. Cowboys 24-21.

6. You're right - we have been given a great schedule |
|
But it does get tough at the end. Philly still scares me, and I'm glad Dallas's last game against the Giants is at home.
Meredith was right, but God has been taking a break the last three years. He has let down his team, and for goodness sakes, look at the 2000 "selection." God is waking up and is getting ready for 2004.

8. It isn't that God was taking a break |
|
It's that not even God could make anything out of Chan Galey or Dave Campo. He just cursed at his set until they were canned, just like the rest of us.
Yes, Philly scares me, too. They should win the division, as soon as they remember who they are. And there's no telling with New York--they've got the talent, but their talent is flaky (especially Shockey and Collins). I was worried about Washington until Sunday's game. The only team who should be afraid of them is whomever they play the week after Spurrier gets axed.
