Poll question: Who Should Be The NEW Doctor Who?
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 12:03 PM by khephra
Now that the BBC has actually committed to going forward with it this time?

The first three names have been mentioned in the tabloids and in serious pieces, so they're not out of the question. Tom Baker is pushing for Eddie, last I heard.

1. I'll probably get flamed for this
But I liked Paul McGann well enough in that horrible travesty of a TV movie they did in the early 90s. Every time I think of Rowan Atkinson I think of Mr. Bean, unfortunately, so I can't take him seriously. And unfortunately I don't know any other British actors!

No flames from me.
Yes, the American movie sucked donkey balls, but McGann was the lone bright spot. (Well, Sylvester McCoy was of course great for his cameo at the beginning.)

He just seemed very doctor-ish to me, a good fit for the role.

LORD please not Rowan Atkinson! Is he being considered?!?

8. Rowan actually has already played the Doctor
for a Comic Relief UK special in 1999. He received outstanding reviews for his job in the role.

7. I liked McGann too.
I even didn't mind the movie (you can't get away with cardboard and rubber monsters forever ;-) ).

3. Don't keep up with Brit actors so
where would I know each of these guys from?

If it were up to me, I'd go with whatever Tom Baker suggests.

He was my first Doctor, and like a first love, nobody else is ever quite the same.

15. tv series
The BBC is actually doing two of them this time. One is animated (and already cast...I just forget who the lead is) and the other would be a live-action tv series.

17. I tried to write a Doctor Who New Adventure once
It was called Idiot Bomb or Emotional Rescue (never could decide) and starred the fourth doc, Romana and K-9. Set in the small town of Spearhead, BC (made-up), about an alien weapon that sucked aggression out of hostile life-forms in order to stop wars. Unfortunately the device malfunctioned and adopted all the agression it absorbed, creating a massive nasty blob. K-9 saved the day.
Doesn't that just make me King Nerd?!

26. This was also in that Comic Relief special
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 01:56 PM by Book Lover
Joanna Lumley was the final incarnation of the Doctor in the (very cute) Comic Relief thing, so technically it is not without precident for a Time Lord to change gender.

Personally, though, I'd love to see an older actor (or actress) do it this time; someone Patrick Troughton-ish. 'Tho I'm sure Eddie would do a just-perfect job...
