"And so castles made of sand..."
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 07:57 PM by Catch22Dem
Jimi Hendrix - Castles Made Of Sand Lyrics

Down the street you can hear her scream 'you're a discrace',
as she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
and all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries 'oh girl, you must be mad,
what happened to the sweet love you and me had?'
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
and his tears fall and burn the garden green

And so castles made of sand fall in the sea, eventually

A little Indian brave, who before he was ten
played war games in the woods with his Indian friends
And he built a dream that when he grew up he would be
a fearless warrior Indian Chief
Many moons passed and more the dream grew strong,
until tomorrow he would sing his first war song
and fight his first battle But something went wrong,
surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand, melts into the sea, eventually

There was a young girl, whose heart was a frown
'cause she was crippled for life, and she couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she could stop living,
so she decided to die
She drew her wheel chair to the edge of the shore,
and to her legs she smiled 'you won't hurt me no more'
But then a sight she'd never seen made her jump and say,
'Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way'

And it really didn't have to stop, it just kept on going

And so castles made of sand, slips into the sea, eventually

1. Nice, but I still prefer:
There must be some kinda way outa here
Said the joker to the thief
There’s too much confusion
I can’t git no relief
Businessmen they drink my wine
Plow men dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth

No reason to git excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke, but uh
But you and I, we’ve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour’s gettin' late

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Bare-foot servants too, but uh
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Two riders were approachin’
And the wind begin to howl

All along the watchtower
Hear you sing around the watchtower
Gotta beware, gotta beware, I will
All along the watchtower

5. Yeah, Dylan wrote it, I think,
but the Hendrix version that I was listening to is a little different.

I like the changes generally,
"None will level on the line, nobody of it is worth."
for
"None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

Although the original line is good too.

And possibly, Jimmy just screwed up.

9. I have a few covers
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 12:44 AM by necso
that were done pretty much like the original, but that I like better because of the (better) singing. But generally, it's nice to bring something new to a cover (one that is released, anyway).

As for that Boots thing, I think that maybe you are referring to that Simpson(?) woman. (Google guides me to think so.)

From what little I know of that (whole) phenomenon, I have very little nice to say.

So I won't.

Me (and for me), I see little point in it.

It takes too much energy, for too little expected results.

I love it...

I think the 10,000 maniacs version of PEace Train made it their own...

That's the kind I like

12. I don't have
that song. But I have a live version of "To Sir with Love" by them (it sure sounds like them, anyway), that I like a lot.

The crowd noise really sucks though.

14. I don't have either of those.
At least not in my library.

I (really) like some songs here and there, maybe many from one group or artist, maybe one or two from others. 10,000 Maniacs would be a middle-of-the-pack (library) holding for me.

But when they're good, they can be very good (to my taste, anyway).

8. If Six Was Nine (my favorite)
(Yeah, sing a song bro'...)
If the sun refused to shine
I don't mind, I don't mind
If the mountains ah, fell in the sea
Let it be, it ain't me.

Got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.

Yeah (sing the song brother...)
Now if six turned out to be nine
I don't mind, I don't mind uh
If all the hippies cut off all their hair
I don't care, oh I don't care.
Dig.

'Cause I've got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.

White collar conservative flashin' down the street
Pointin' their plastic finger at me
Hopin' soon my kind will drop and die but uh
I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high !
Oww !

Wave on, wave on...
