Guess what..... WE FOUND AN APARTMENT!!!!!!! |
|
Yes indeedy! My sister, Cassandra Uprising and I hit pay-dirt after a long hard schlog in NYC yesterday. And get this: it's in the Upper East Side (91st st) in an awesome neighborhood and it's dirt cheap (minus the heinous broker fee)!!!!
We are all so psyched we could fly. 2 bedrooms, a living room, big kitchen, 2nd floor, heat & hot water!!!
We spent the very hot and humid day trudging around neighborhoods we could "afford" but didn't want to live in and one basement apartment that, frankly, scared us. And when we felt our most depressed we stopped into a cafe to get some AC and some water when my sister popped onto Craig's List at one of the computers they had. She found a post that had come up 10 minutes before and we hopped a cab and scooped it up. The broker's fee (15%) really hurts but we felt we needed to suck this one up and bite the proverbial bullet.
Long story short: we be NYC bound!

I live on 89th.
There is a small comic book store on 89th off of Second.
There is a great Vietnamese restaurant/takeout place on 88th and Second--order in and they always bring the food inside of 10 minutes (unbelievable how fast they are).
On the corner of 89th and Third there's this "Milano" place where you can buy fresh pasta, sauce, cheese, and Italian pastries.
Movie houses on 86th Street, along with PC Richards, a Best Buy and TWO Barnes and Nobles. Also, Petco and Modell's.
The Guggenheim is on Fifth Avenue between 88th and 89th.
The Carl Shurz Park promenade on one end, Central Park on the other.
I could go on and on.

that's an excellent way to get through life. Heck, it wasthe only way I got smokes on saturday night, if I interrupt a conversation between a guy and a girl to bum a smoke from her? I get glares from both. if a cute girl asks her? we're fine. By the same token, I can ask him in that situation, but she can't...

im moving from my favorite location, the village, to the Lincoln Center Area...its gonna be a HUGE change for me, as Ive been below 14th for the past 5 years, but the market bubble is so big, rents downtown are totally outrageous. My scum-sucking-landlord wants to raise my rent $400 bucks! :grr: after searching and searching, a 2 room apt. with a bathroom and "kitchen hallway" downtown (no common space ) was just in me and my roomates price range...Fucking awful! So now we're moving on up...

I don't want to know what dirt cheap is. I will cry. But that's great news. New York City has a very sophisticated immune system. If it accepts you, it will bring you apartments, jobs, contacts, everything you need. If it rejects you, it will spit you out no matter what, one way or the other.
I love it here.
