Did your flu shot make you sick? |
|
I'm on day two after a flu shot and I feel like crap--low grade fever and just totally wrung out. I've talked to a few other folks and now I'm hearing THEY had problems too. So here is my question:
Other than a sore arm did YOU have problems after your flu shot this year?

Been almost a week now and no after effects. Not much of a sore arm either.

I've gotten it 4 years running now, and have never had a problem.
If you get the shot, you are getting KILLED viruses. You might experience some symptoms as your body expends energy into identifying the proteins and manufacturing antibodies, but you can't get "the flu".
If you get the nasal mist vaccine, you're getting WEAKENED viruses, and it IS possible to get the flu. Which is why they don't recommend the mist for children or the elderly.

12. Are you sure they weren't playing possum? |
|
They told me it was a killed virus vaccine, but I gotta say that I've wondered if those little devils were just playing dead!
I just keep tellimg myself that if the killed virus promoted this kind of response how BAD would the hale and hearty one have been?!

I came down with the flu on Xmas Day 1999. It knocked me out for the next week. 104 degree fever at times. I had never gotten the flu shot before (never really had the flu before), but then & there (despite my fever-induced delirium) I vowed to get it every year in the future.

3. Just gon mine yesterday |
|
ad a bit of a headache afterwards, but i think I feel ok today.
Mine was a deactivated virus inoculation, and so, you cant get even a tiny flu from those, but you can have allergic reactions, but a serious one would happen minites after the injection. You might get a lessser allergic reaction later, and get a horse throat and such, but thats it. My arm didnt get red afterwartds.
The injection materials usually are egg based with stuff like thimersol in them as a preservative, so you acn aqlso have reactions if you are allergic to these. Hard to say, but a deactivated virus injection should not cause illness.

7. The strain of flu virus in the |
|
vaccination is dead, so it is not able to give you the flu. Perhaps you caught another strain or you were already in the incubation period. Hope you feel better soon, but I have been fighting it off and on for over a month. Take care of yourself and get lots of rest. :)

My doctor practically laughed in my face when I asked if I should get a flu shot. He said I'd be better of getting the flu.

plus a pneumonia shot in the other arm. I feel a bit draggy and both of my arms are sore. Typical reaction after vaccination.

13. No, it was the Winn-Dixie cashier. |

Coughing and sneezing and wheezing all over everything. I washed my hands as soon as I got home but that didn't work. Started coming down with this #@*%#@ cold last week and it's still hanging on. Was supposed to leave for Boston today for a visit with our grandson, but I'm too sick to travel. DAMMIT!

19. If you have already been exposed to the flu, |
|
the shot might not protect you from developing it. (quote from the above link) Also, there are lots of viruses going around that are not covered by the shot.
