Poll question: What is your favorite Woody Allen Film?
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 02:36 PM by ronzoNOLA
I'm sure it's been done before, but Bananas is on and I'm inspired.

I know it's tough...

26. Mine too
Sleeper is his slapstick comedic height, the best of his early films.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 02:12 PM by smirkymonkey
voted "Take the Money and Run", but you missed "Love and Death" which is a tie for me, and Bananas. Also, Sleeper should be on there too!

Whoops: just noticed you mentioned Bananas - sorry!

4. Love and Death
A beautiful film and a hilarious parody of all Woody Allen holds dear: Russian literature, Russian cinema, existentialist philosophy, and Ingmar Bergman, in particular.

16. The slaptstick is very funny too!
I can make myself crack up thinking about the dueling scene or the assassination of "Napoleon."

"How ya doin', ya highness?"

14. That's my vote too.
He also sends up T.S. Eliot in a scene where he's writing poetry by the fire.

34. Woody didn't direct "Play it Again, Sam"
He wrote it, stars in it, and it's fabulous, but he didn't direct it. For this reason, it's no more a Woody Allen Movie than "What's New, Pussycat?" is.

(Herb Ross did.)

13. While Manhattan gets the most critical acclaim, and
Annie Hall has won the most awards, and Interiors is the most underrated, and Woody thinks his best is Stardust Memories, I still get an immense giggle from Love and Death.

36. Love and Death
It was extremely funny, Diane Keaton is wonderful, and it allowed to me to make good use of the Russian Lit course that I took college. It's still my favorite Allen film, although there are a few that are close (Bananas, Annie Hall, Hannah and Her Sisters).

I'm finding, however, the post-Mia Farrow Woody hard to take. I'm thinking that Woody really should have sued his Freudian analyst for malpractice.
