I recieved one of the best compliments of my life today. |
|
Earler today, I went down to my bank to make a deposit. When I was exiting the bank, the hallway had two sets of glass and steel doors. When I was coming out, an old man and an old woman (presumably his wife) were coming in. You could tell that the old man wasn't in good health, and he struggled to walk upright. His wife had her hand on his shoulder, keeping him steady.
Being the good-hearted person I am (thanks Mom!), I did the right thing, stood to the side, and held the door for the elderly couple. The old lady, as she passed me said to me "I knew there were good people in the world. You're one of them."
Damn near made me cry when I got back to my car.

2. Sad that your kind act |
|
should get such a response isn't it? Good for you. It never hurts to be courteous, in fact it is almost always a feel good moment. Hooray for you.

5. Awwww, that's so sweet! |

Sad that that small effort was worthy of such commentary. *sigh*
Each day more people turn callous and cold...

14. I think it is a flair for the dramatic |
|
Last year or so I was biking down the street when I noticed an old fellow struggling to get a lawn-mower out of a car trunk. I stopped to help, and he said something like "you saved my life". Shucks, I figured that I helped, but it wasn't all that. Still, it does not hurt too bad to get a BIG compliment.

7. How wonderful that they noticed your kindness and responded,... |
|
How nice to know that some Mom's are still teaching courtesies and manners, and you remembered! I always appreciate it when someone holds the door for me, and let them know it. However, I have done the same for others, and they just walk blithely thru, as if it was expected... that really gripes me....
Congratulations to you, keep on spreading kindness, it will eventually come back to you! :bounce:

I was raised in such a way that I have extremely good manners (for the most part) now that I am an adult. I always hold doors for people, say "bless you" when someone sneezes, let people off the train/elevator before I get on, etc., etc.
I almost never get a thank you when I hold a door for someone, and I have found that others very, very rarely hold the door open for me. (And I forget sometimes that people don't do this -- which means that I occasionally run into the odd glass door.)
Good for you. You are one of the good people.

11. My mother passed away |
|
3 years ago at the age of 84. I watched her struggle the last 4 years of her life with uncontrollable diabetes, anemia because the lining of her stomach had worn so thin, pulmonary and cardiac edema, and senile dementia. Everything she did took so much effort. After watching and doing everything I could to help, I now will go out of my way to help out an elderly person when I see them. I don't look for thanks. I just hope I come across people who will go out of their way for me when I get old and life becomes a struggle. With all the health problems my mother had, I can't help but wonder what the elderly person I see in the store is facing and how much they are struggling.

13. Doesn't it feel good to do the right thing. |
|
My hubby and I were at a store one night and parked beside us was an elderly couple. Their car wouldn't crank. We tried to help them, but nothing was working. We told them we would try to find a tow-truck. We went to various places trying to find one and never could. So we went back and they were shocked that we came back. Come to find out, the old man was a really respected retired rich doctor, and gave us his number. He told us anytime we needed anything, call. B/c he said not many people these days do those type things.
