... I would love to post the link but I know FR is crawling all over DU and I'm sure they would immediately head over there to throw a life preserver to their drowned comrades or at least flood the board with nonsense like "YOU ANTI-AMERICAN FREEDOM HATERS GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY NOW!"
The topic was the CBS miniseries and how satisfied these bozos were that they had gotten it canceled. They were ranting about using lies to depict a President" so I asked them if they objected to the fawning portrayal of George W. Bush, complete with fictional tough-guy quotes (you know, the crap about how "If some tinhorn terrorist wants me, tell him to come on over and get me. I'll be home") in the Showtime series that recently aired. I said Bush had run across the country on 9/11 like a coward under the pretense of a phony threat.
In any online forum that is infested by conservatives you will find that making ANY remark they don't like will cause them to hysterically jump all over you like a shrieking, wailing muppet. Because, of course, their entire ideology is based on terrorizing and shouting down the opposition; these are the guys that thrive on death threats and anonymous phone calls. Sure enough, two jumped right in. One called me a liar for my comment that "Bush had run across the country on 9/11 like a coward under the pretense of a phony threat." I demonstrated Bush ran to Louisiana and Nebraska before finally returning to DC and also demonstrated the Air Force One threat WAS phony, but as is typical of conservatives he just tried to spin everything his way; it was only "my opinion" the threat was phony. I told him to prove I was a liar or have the honor to retract his claim, and naturally he could do neither.
The way to win with these slimebags is to keep hammering the same points home, over and over, and DO NOT let them get away with gaining the slightest molecule of ground using falsehoods. This guy tried to pass the "phony threat against Air Force One" blame off on the Secret Service rather than the White House and I stopped him cold, telling him he wasn't going to get away with relying on any fact he hadn't established. I invited him to prove the Secret Service ever even relayed the nonexistent threat to the White House. Couldn't do it.
The battle went on; he claimed he thought Bush was an honorable man and a good president. I promptly furnished him with five lies that Bush had told about Iraq, and of course he just brushed them aside and pretended they weren't real. Didn't even blame them on the liberal media; no, he just wasn't going to face ANYTHING he didn't like. He kept claiming I was misinformed and naive as meanwhile he was getting his ass bodyslammed over and over as he ran from fact after fact after fact about Bush; the wartime desertion, the war on terror, and so forth. Refused to address anything he couldn't handle such as my comments of "If the economy is getting so much better where are the jobs?" and "If Bush is doing such a great job in the war on terror where is Osama Bin Laden?" Naturally he resorted to whining about Clinton which I promptly knocked aside, telling him the past President was irrelevant and had been out of office for years so it was time for conservatives to "get over Clinton" and "move on into the present." Finally he desperately bleated that we could "agree to disagree" and uttered a slew of non sequiturs intended to exonerate Bush for deserting during war (in which he also simultaneously tried to whine about Clinton's protest of the Vietnam War, of course) and then he dropped the ball and ran home. I imagine his Mommy's lap is rather damp with his tears right about now.
The second conservative throughout all this had been ranting that Bush had indeed uttered one of the "tough guy" quotes I criticized him for in my original post, and that was all I needed - I kept demanding that he substantiate that claim until I wore him down. He started insisting I must be some other poster whom he'd apparently been beaten up by in the past (trying to change the subject away from his own failings) and even sneered that I had to prove Bush DIDN'T say any such things. I countered this by reiterating my requests that he prove his claim, and sure enough he descended into shrill name-calling and "I don't have to talk to you, so there!" He bolted the discussion with the hilarious comment that it had been a good conversation until I came along. I'm sure that was the only truthful remark he uttered.
I've seen this same pattern time and time again on the few occasions I've actually bothered discussing politics with conservatives, such that these two might well have been clones (which they all are, essentially). They name call. They sneer insults. They hurl accusations. They act like four-year-old bullies. They utilize distortion and hypocrisy, ignore comments they can't handle or reply to and ALWAYS, in the end, charge out of the arena with claims like "I didn't like this discussion anyhow" or "You're never going to see the truth," as meanwhile they've ignored all manner of facts which spell out doom for their side.
Seeing how empty-handed these bozos truly are in the intellectual arena truly is an addictive intoxicant!
