Crummy songs with great cover versions?
I nominate "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" made famous by Rod Stewart. Roddy's version has me reaching for the barf bag, but the song lends itself to hilarious cover versions. It''s been covered by Tiny Tim, Benzedrine Monks of Santo Domonica, Revolting Cocks, Those Darned Accordians, Vanilla Fudge and The KGB Chicken.

1. I Will Survive
Gloria Gaynor did a tepid job the first time around, and years later, Cake fixed it.

6. "I'm Gonna Keep On Lovin' You" covered by Lisa Loeb
REO Speedwagon's original is typical bombastic treacle, But Loeb strips it down to melody and naked yearning. Her version is gorgeous (and without a trace of smirking irony)

8. "Nobody Does It Better" covered by Radiohead
Also "Rhinestone Cowboy" covered by (you guessed it) Radiohead.

Honestly, I do listen to other music besides Radiohead. I just picked up the new Outkast CD and Tom Jones Reloaded this week.

So I do listen to other stuff. I just don't enjoy it as much.

9. The Porpoise Song
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 04:40 PM by forradalom
Carole King's contribution to the psychedelic era. It was done by the Monkees and received a kickass makeover from Bongwater (my favorite track by them.)

On edit: It didn't really start out as a truly crummy tune. Perhaps it doesn't belong on the list, but it was much improved by the Bongwater treatment.

11. Bizarre Love Triangle
originally recorded Depeche Mode (I think)... their version is not exactly crummy but I liked the Frente' cover of it much better... a completely different interpretation of the song.
