Sonofamuththafrickin...! I suck at computer tech crap!!! |
|
Ok...Got a Belkin wireless router from my parents, they didn't want it, and after two days of screwing up IP addresses (Alright the desk top worked fine off of the router right after I installed it), the modem, the computer, my lovely spouse's patience, I've HAD IT!!!!!
Yes the techs from Belkin & Bellsouth were nice and helpful especially the nice young lady from the Phillipenes, but SHIT what a nightmare!!!
Two days ago there was signal for the wireless laptop, yippee, so I tried to encrypt the stupid thing and voila! Lost access for the bulk of this evening...
I had the Ethernet cables all in the right places, even installed the ethernet PCI card myself (IT WORKS GODDAMNED IT!!!!), yet all hell broke loose. IP addresses were flung across cyberspace by my incompetance.
Now (After an hour call to Bellsouth) it's back to the USB cable and no wireless...
I need to buy a case a beer and get a techy friend to come over and get this shit together because while I may be a GIS master and able to make Access and Excell works wonders I'm no flippin' software tech.
Ay caramba what an experiance from hell...

11. Let me ask you a question. How far away is the computer from |
|
the router itself? Sometimes they get too close and it cuts the signal.

12. The two computers were between 5 feet away |
|
and about 20 feet away from each other.
It was extremely frustrating.

13. First. Make sure the router is at least 10 feet away from each |
|
system. Tell you what, if you have any questions feel free to PM me. Those things can be a little tricky to set up.

14. What you need to do is..... |
|
Stick one finger in your ear (left preferably) then hold your right hand up in a soul fist, jump twice to your left, once to your right and then three fist pumps and that should work. Either that or call the geeks!

18. Wireless is very straightforward. |
|
If the router doesn't work, take it back and get a different one (NOT Linksys). There seems to be a rather high out-of-the-box failure rate for router boxes of more than one brand-- a failure in design or quality control- I don't know. All I know is if I plug a box in and can't connect through it within five minutes, it goes back to the store. (I install wireless systems as part of my job.)
