Poll question: Which vision of dystopia reflects the direction the U.S. is headed? |
|
First of all, I must admit that I have not read the ones toward the bottom of the list, so if they are inappropriate for inclusion, I apologize.
So, which of these novels best reflects the direction the U.S. is headed unless we (the people, not necessarily a political party) regain power and control? What is their "blueprint" for our future if they were able to carry out their vision? Please elaborate on what ways you believe this to be the case.
I realize there will be no perfect choice as we can see elements of many of them in our present-day lives, so just pick the one that you think most resembles the current state of affairs.
For bonus points, combine elements of two or more for your unique vision of our dystopian reality.

1. I think it's a combination of F451 and 1984, myself |
|
But then I haven't read any of the other books except for Brave New World.
We have the "style over substance" phenomenon as presented in F451 (who'd want to elect someone with a name like that?) along with the control of information and cultural ignorance from both books.

3. 1984 was set 10 years early |
|
I'd say it's a combo of the Handmaid's Tale and 1984. But I haven't read F-451 yet. Maybe that's a good one for my next read.
