From new england, the South is south.

From California, it's east.

From Brazil, it's north.

From the South Pole, it's north, but the line north that goes through, say, Cuba.

From the North Pole, it's south, on the line that goes through, let us say, Maryland.

From South Africa, it's Northwest.
