KFC is brown-nosing Atkins diet
The new advert talks up all the protein and how few carbs their fried chicken has.

So much cholesterol and fat...

If Atkins users were smart, they'd find healthier high-protein/low-carb sources. CHOLESTEROL is still a problem.

Of course, I've been depressed for days. Why am I caring about health-related issues?

1. Well, I do Atkins
and I've never set foot inside KFC. It's fake southern food anyway.

4. There's KFC Buffets up here that have some really decent stuff.
I usually don't touch the chicken. Grease hell is what it is. But there's lots of salad choices, 6 or 7 different dressings, pies and cakes, macaroni salad, chicken fettucine alfredo that's usually on the menu, etc.:9

2. Eating should be sensible.
I'm carbohydrate sensitive, and my MD placed me on a diet similar to Atkins'. I get blood work done regularly, and know my cholesterol is ok. I would recommend that everyone with dietary concerns check with a reputable health care provider, and to stay in touch.

3. atkins raising your cholesterol is a myth
mine was well within limits after being on it several times.. eskimos eat tons of fatty, cholesterol laden food and don't have heart disease.

i think that the real trouble is consuming high fat/cholesterol foods while also eating lots of simple sugars.

6. It's not the cholesterol you consume
but the cholesterol you make that is the problem.

7. the real problem is
eating and consuming too many carbs and too much sugar. There is virtually too much sugar in almost everything we eat if we eat already prepared foods. Read the labels. There are alternatives to eating pre prepared food also--it just takes a little more planning ahead of time.

16. It didn't for me
I have a family history of high cholesterol and mine used to be very high. On Atkins, it dropped 80 points. Granted I don't eat much red meat still and more of a Mediteranean version of Atkins (fats from more monosaturated sources like olive oil), but I do follow it's basic rules and it's helped me a lot.

5. I'm an Atkins devotee...
but haven't had KFC in quite a while. But I used to have it at least once a week - was good for a change every now and then.

And as for the cholesterol, if you're getting your blood checked you should find the levels going down regardless of how much fat is in the chicken. I don't eat the levels of fat that Atkins recommends, though.

My biggest concern about eating chicken (esp KFC) is the amount of antibiotics the chicken farms usually feed them before slaughter. Meat eating is a dangerous game these days.

8. It is an interesting campaign.
Especially considering the processed carbs that fill most of the side dishes one can get at KFC.

9. What does KFC coat the chicken with
before frying it? Some recipes I've read want you to use corn flakes. No, I'm not kidding.

Now I broil chicken, but when I fried it, I used a little flour and cornmeal.

10. It's the Colonel's ELEVEN HERBS AND SPICES!!!
Which is a euphemism for "GARLIC PEPPER".

11. Well, it has to be in a solution
of something. I bet it's not just the spices. You have to have something that will cling to the chicken, i.e. flour.

13. I know. It's probably standard flour/eggwash.
Along with the Colonel's "secret" garlic pepper.

12. No idea, but KFC Original Recipe
is to die for. I only eat it a few times a year, it's damn good. Even their fake mashed potatoes and biscuits are good.

15. So is Pizza Hut.
Don't they have the same parent company?

They supposedly have a "low carb/low cal" pizza.
It is just their regular thin-crust pizza with even less dough for the crust, minimal sauce and less cheese and toppings.
20-25 carbs a slice.
Bullshit.

KFC wouldn't be too bad if they sold chicken by the piece at reasonable prices.
But who goes in and buys *one* piece of chicken?

If they were *really* trying to offer a usable low carb alternative, they'd use an Atkins flour based batter for the chicken and offer a no-carb side and diet drink combo.
Or a tasty chicken salad.
Or even just grilled chicken with spices.
It is all *doable*, but their profit margin would shrink and we can't have that can we?

//If Atkins users were smart, they'd find healthier high-protein/low-carb sources. CHOLESTEROL is still a problem.//
Myth.
I'd be willing to bet my cholesterol level is the lowest its been since I stopped eating vegetarian.

//Of course, I've been depressed for days. Why am I caring about health-related issues?//
Because you need to eat healthier?
Seriously... getting off of insulin roller coaster was the absolute best thing about getting on Atkins.

18. I've been doing Atkins/Low-Carb for 6 months now...
and my weight, cholesterol, and triglyceride numbers have been steadily decreasing.

I can't say whether KFC is good or bad for the diet; I've eaten KFC perhaps one or two times over that period. I certainly wouldn't go on a steady diet of the stuff. ;)

19. It has alot of sodium

I read that a KFC dinner has 1500 mgs of sodium. It's like a whole days worth. I don't know why fast/processed foods have to have so much salt in them.
