Sunday night my minidisc recorder/player and my CD/radio were stolen out of my car, along with the title CD and Welcome to the Monkey House, making me Dandy Warholless once I left the house.
Tonight Loved One gave me a 5GB iPod, so once again I can be Warholed where ever I go, since I can put all my 100% legal downloads from dandywarhols.com on it as well. (Pretty decent of him to trust me with more expensive electronics, since he gave me the ones that were stolen.)
Since Loved One is off-limits to y'all, how about some love for the best band ever, The Dandy Warhols?

1. I love this band. particulary their first CD, the one you mention |
|
in your subject line. Of course I played Dandy Warhols Come Down until it was worn out and then of course Thirteen Tales of Urban Bohemia!. I am quite fond of their covers of Ohio by Crosby Stills Nash and Young and Hells Bells by ACDC. Welcome to the Monkey House hasn't "grabbed me" like the others did. I particulary like Nietzche and Bohemian Like you from their third one.
I am always surprised one somebody has actually heard of this band. They seem to be much bigger in Europe.

2. "Monkey House" is Growing on Me |
|
The more I hear it, the more I like it. At first it seemed almost devoid of the elements I like the most, namely, the clever harmonies etc on the vocals, but they're there somewhat. And of course, clever lyrics though I'm such a fan I probably buy an album of them singing the phonebook (as long as they included the guitar and vocal fireworks).
Black, Tales from Slabtown and Rule OK are my current favorites, with everything else at close #2.
The oddest thing? I'm the only person I know who knows the band, and I'm 38! I've been spreading the word to my younger friends.

3. I first saw a video of them on that show on MTV in the 90's |

that played the more obscure alternative videos. The show was called 120 Minutes and it was on at midnite every sunday. They played a video of the song "The Dandy Warhols TV Song". I thought they were interesting although that isnt one of my favorite songs by them. I then, later on, purchased Dandy Warhols Come Down which became of my sister's (also a DUer) all time favorite CD's (particularly the song "Good Morning", "Boys Better" from that same one is used on the movie Good Will Hunting). I like Minnesoter from that one. I then purchased their first CD next (that one is my favorite, I love Ride and Not Your Bottle). They also did an awesome cover of a song by a band called Brian Jonestown Massacre which i downloaded off Kazaalite and is still trapped on the harddrive of a messed up computer still sitting at a friend's house. I love this band and missed them when they played at a bar in Boston a few months back. I wanted to see them but just wasn't able to.
on edit: another great song by them I got via Kazaalite which isn't on any CD is "Retarded".

Went out the next day and bought Come Down and Rule OK. I never buy albums one the strength of one song. Now I just pre-order their albums as soon as allowed.
"Retarded" is on Tales from Slabtown, along with "Kinky" and "Dub Song."
On edit: Black and Tales from Slabtown used to be legally available for download on dandywarhols.com; I think they have new ones now (I'm on dialup, and don't chekc very often.)

Minnesotter Head CCR Dick Kinky Retarded Not if You Were the Last Junkie on Earth Cool as Kim Deal Hard on for Jesus Genuis Just Try One Green Bohemian Like You Godless
You get the idea. Whipping Tree, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and Pete International Airport suck. I think those are the only ones I can't stand to listen to.
