I had a bad night with a fundie. |
|
He's a guy my brother met as a bartender. He drinks and smokes, not just tobacco. He's never been married, has no kids. He also apparently makes more money than he needs. At least that's what he said. He brought some ribs to the house, which I dutifully (and expertly, I might add) smoked. I bought the beer. He drank a lot of it Every conversation, no matter the subject, kept coming back to Jesus and love. And, very weirdly, mangoes. Female body types were also very important to him. My brother and I kept trying to tell him that the concept of physical beauty is very slippery, it has changed over and over throughout history. He compared the desirability of women to mangoes. If there is a worm in the mango, would you eat it? We kept arguing, saying you can't compare people to fruit. And it got really weird after that. I told him that I don't like him, don't trust him, and don't want him in my home again. My brother still had to take him aside and back me up. Good brother.

18. It almost got to that. |

My brother, (wisely) stepped in to stop a further escalation. I really went hard on the use of fundie beliefs to push a political agenda that cares nothing for the people they use. Sometimes my brother steps in too soon.

11. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first. |
|
But it quickly became apparent that he was way too weird. I've had people like that try to insinuate themselves into my life in the past. I don't mean just fundies, either. People with no family, no real connections to other people. And he just struck me that way.

Weird is right. I won't have people that are so against everything I believe in in my home either. Used to try but not anymore.

I also told him that, when I was stationed in Cuba, I knew a lot of people who got rashes when coming in contact with mangoes. And that I don't like mangoes.

This is the type of man I have met all over the KC dating scene in the last couple of years. Ok, maybe not quite as quirky as him but some are not that far off. And they all seem to like me which is quite frightening.

with a five year old at home. Kinda puts a damper on the love life. I think that the chickenhawks and the fundies around me put a bigger damper on it though.

You are not alone. And even in the former marriage, there was no love life. It's possible to have one, even when you have children. But I know what you mean.

24. The conservative men around here I don't want |

anything to do with. And on the dating sites and such the liberal men don't want a woman w/ a child. So I always feel like I'm left out in the cold either way.

I am not actively looking, and I've not really tried any of the dating sites (other than answering the 38942082734985923 eHarmony questions hoping each question was the last)--but it seems many guys don't want children involved.
Frankly, I don't blame them, and can totally understand that. It just sucks for me.
But I'm very schizophrenic about whether I want anything to do with a man right now anyway.

30. I wouldn't have banned him from my home but |
|
when I was through with him he wouldn't want to come back again. How can a man who has never been married know so much about women? Surely no single man who could make any conversation about Jesus would have had any personal knowledge about women :sarcasm:.
