1. Interesting but I had it figured out WAY too early in the film
Ron Howard's 'little girl' is gonna be fun to watch in more films. She has a gift too.

5. Nyah..
It was so-so. Adrian Brodie (sp?) was great.

The anti-Bush imagery didn't get past me one bit.
Danger colors.. the name of the village's leader.. control via fear.. etc..

7. I tried watching it
Didn't like it. I forget why now, but I just didn't enjoy it. My hatred of M. Night Syamalan didn't help either, haha.

20. It all started with The Sixth Sense...
Everyone and their dog was going on about how brilliant it was and that M. Night was a genius and all this shit. I saw it and was thoroughly underwhelmed. Then when I started familiarizing myself with ACTUAL film geniuses (Lynch, Polanski, Kubrick, etc.) I began to realize just how overrated he was.

9. I was able to figure it out in the first 30 minutes or so - SPOILERS
I could have come up with a much better ending, that really would have been a surprise.

when they were going on about 'the project' or whatever, I KNEW what was going on. There was something else earlier--I think when they were against "red", I was like "hoookay. What not-so-surprising twist is this going to be? They're living in modern times, right?"

See, for me, the movie would have been better if they never let anyone "in" on the deal so early in the movie. Don't show the pictures or the voiceovers from the therapy group. Just have the people afraid of red, afraid of the beast, and the girl goes into town to get the medicine or whatever.

Then, last scene of the movie, she walks out of the woods, comes across the road, and a car passes by. End. Roll Credits.

10. M. Night Shymalan and his crappy egomaniacal....ARGHHHHH!!!
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 03:06 PM by tjdee
He gets in the way of his own movies, IMO. As a director, he actually has some talent, and I have to say I enjoyed Signs a LOT and liked the Village too. But I had to overlook the tired script devices and dumbass cameos.

"Me just like Hitchcock, me want be in all me movies!!" I swear to jeebus he spent more time on his fucking clever cameo than the friggin script. It really, really irritates me.

As a writer, he's ridiculously overrated. Ridiculously. I didn't figure out the Village, but I did figure out the Sixth Sense right after the shooting. In fact, I thought the Sixth Sense had crappy editing, until I saw the end. He forces the ending, regardless of huge plot holes (gee, aliens never heard of water before??) and he does it in such an obvious way as to be very stupid if not executed properly by the right actors.

He is, though, fortunate to have very good actors in his pictures. I think all the actors in The Village did a great job.

as well. I came away with a lot of questions that were unanswered at the end, however.

16. I felt it should have been rated "D" by the MPAA...
for Dumb.

Just did not care for it.

Of M. Night's movies, the only ones I like (so far) are "Sixth Sense" and especially "Unbreakable".

"Unbreakable" is one of my all time favorite movies.

17. Funny, just watched it last night.
Ron Howard's daughter was good in her role but the movie as a whole was just plain predictable.
