Do you tell people about DU?

I come in contact with new people every day and let's face it the average American doesn't know squat about what is going on in Washington. My conversations go something like this:

Me:Do you like Dick Cheney?
Them: I think he is great.

Me: Have you ever heard of Haliburton?
Them: Hali-who?

Me: (I give brief explaination of Haliburton)
Them: Interesting

Me: Dick Cheney was their CEO before becoming VP
Them: Oh really

Me: Did you know he still owns stock in that company?
Them: No I didn't...isn't that illegal or unethical?
Me: yes


I will spare you the rest of the conversation but I repeat these steps with Bechtal and Dynacorp.

I reach into my pocket and hand them a slip of paper with DU's address on it.

I feel like Morpheous handing them the red pill. So I warn them...you might not like what you see there...it might make you angry...you might not believe it...keep an open mind...and don't let yourself be overcome with emotion.


I have little pieces of paper with the address to this discussion board in my pocket.

I try to tell friends and acquaintances but sometimes I like a place where NO ONE knows me except the people there.

I always tell people about the Bush-Nazi ties and the Bush-Saudi ties to Osama.

2. I tell everybody...and a few have even become DUers

3. I went to a Dean Meetup last night

And I asked the two Dean workers if they knew about Democratic Underground. Neither one had. I was stunned. These were two guys who went on and on about how net savvy the whole Dean campaign was. So I gave them the URl. Ill ask them at the next one if they've become DUers.

4. I spread the word as often as possible

but I don't know if any of my friends/family have joined. If they have they didn't make it known to me.

and if I'd shown up yesterday, I would have thought "what a bunch of lunatics", I imagine a good percentage do. Don't believe me? Pick a letter of user names in the options area, and look how many non-tombstoned posters have less than 5 posts.

6. I have told several people about DU!

They mostly all love it! A couple of them voted for Bush, but hate what they did now! Most of the people Bush fooled last time are REALLY pissed at the "lying skunk"! One of them lost an 80k a year job due to products made in China flooding the electrical conduit market! THe dude is a lifelong Repub, but his ideas have changed in three years of looking for a GOOD job! Maybe Bush can send him an application for a McDonnalds in Baghdad!

I signed up one classmate, and am constantly pestering my other classmates to join DU, register to vote, and get informed. I'm making some progress. :-)
