Been lurking for a while (mostly because I feel somewhat "inadequate" compared to many of the regulars "big brain" DUers)

I'm new to politics - thank you Bush and Co. for totally pissing me off (filthyrottenbastards…) and hope to get more vocal if I don't have a heart attack first...

I'm a supporter and active promoter of renewable energy technologies in a certain mid-Atlantic state that is home to not one - but TWO famous (or infamous) religious nut jobs.

Cant imagine ever having 1000+ posts listed next to my username, as I’m kinda supposed to be doing my “real work” – but hope to chime in when possible - especially on energy-environment issues since I can (almost) justify that as "work-related ;-)

And I must tell you it's refreshingly intellectual compared to the shithole I hung out in a few years ago. You might want to peek in there sometime. It's called, ironically, the Hillary Clinton Forum (http://www.hillary.org).

The lady who runs it is really nice, and claims to be a liberal democrat, but she has inexplicably given the reigns of the site over to a gaggle of the nastiest bunch of rightwing whackjobs you'll ever see. That, of course, means that they are allowed to censor at will; which they do and you can guess who's posts get censored. This has attracted a few more of their ugly kind and now it's safe to say it is nothing but a bully pit for the rightwing extreme. Not, I'm sure, what the owner (Esme Taylor) had in mind.

I found out about DU from that site, because DU drives them positively psychotic with anger and hatred. I'm glad I've "switched", as I got tired of dropping three IQ points every time I visited hillary.org.

Yeah, I'm a "newbie," although I kinda hate that word. "Newbie." I don't know why---it's as good as any other, I guess. (Can't think of a better one at the moment.) How did I find DU? Honestly, I can't even remember now, but it was only a few days ago. Someone sent me the link, or I got it from another site. I like this site (so far) because I can say what's on my mind, whether I agree or disagree with what I'm responding to. (Haven't posted any original threads yet.) I hope this will continue to be the case. I have many strong passions, including music, books, art in general---and I too often find that when people express themselves boldy, they end up being tarred-and-feathered and jettisoned from sites. In truth, this has never happend to me, but I am against that on general principals. Unless the poster in question is saying things that are fundamentally antithetical to to basic philosophy.

So I'm sitting here in NYC, November '03, writing a novel. I was born in Pittsburgh, lived in L.A. in the '80s and '90s, and then relocated to Manhattan for all the right reasons. That's me in a nutshell. The perverse details? That's what the shrinks have been trying to get a handle on for the last 15 years. Can't wait to spend more time on DU.

I admit I'm a bit confused by DU---in the sense that I just don't know that much about the internet in general, or sites like this one. I find it sort of frustrating that the threads I post to seem to disappear kinda fast, and that there is (or seems to be, at least) no way to communicate with fellow DU-ers via email, or some such. I guess the world at large is moving too fast for me. (Hell, I'm almost 40.) I figure I will learn the DU ropes in the fullness of time, but if there's a place I can go to get general rules and philosophies, I'd be grateful. It's ironic, I guess, that I was the first kid on my block to get an Apple "Mac" back in 1984---and now, almost 20 years later, I remain intimidated by technology. But then, I'm basically a 19th century man.

I'm a transplanted Okie, living in and loving central PA.

I'm new to following politics. It started shortly after 9/11, when I noticed W was preaching at the US and the world in just the same manner as the terrorists he promised to bring to justice. He sounds just as zealous and fanatical as bin Laden. I was beginning to think it was just something about me, until I started digging around the internet. The more I read, the more incensed I got. I've been to so many progressive sights in the past several months, I can't remember how I got here.

I went to the rally in DC last month. It was my first visit there. Funny, I never thought my first trip there would be in protest.

I've been a member for a few weeks and a lurker since last spring. A few of you have welcomed me already in various other threads, but when I saw this thread I thought I would respond.

I was a young adult at the begining of the 1960's and was one who leaned far to the left. Those turbulent times seemed to reinforce my political beliefs.

I've always hated the right wingers and feel a seething rage against the religous right. The crimes the present administration are committing are beyond anything I've ever seen or could imagine.

It's so comforting to have found this group of like minded people.

Hi! I've been lurking for awhile and have just gotten the courage up to start posting.

I'm another Mass Liberal... actually a transplant from California. Every winter I ask myself "why did you ever leave?" Then something happens like der Gropinator getting elected and I say, "oh yeah."

Anyways I have a question: can anyone tell me where the term "freeper" came from, and what exactly it means? Is there a lexicon of DU terms somewhere I can consult?
