To pray for someone's death |
|
1. I dont know how I feel about the death penalty, I dont think I am smart enough to be able to make that kind of decision 2. The Green River killer is a monster-sub human in my mind
Well I am making my rounds around town today-getting my entertainment from the Hate radio station here. Well, Dennis krieger is spewing is natural stuff and actually said he is praying for his death. I dont get the morality of his statement.
Please dont flame me, I just need help in understing this situation

2. Prayers for relief are appropriate; this isn't |
|
Mom died in September, and it was time. We prayed that she would be relieved of her suffering, after a long and productive life. This "commentator" should be taken to the woodshed for this kind of "prayer." No sympathy to the killer, but this isn't what to waste time praying for, when there are so many people he could pray for. Please tell him so.

it costs more to the state to execute than to imprison for a lifetime.
i don't support the death penalty either, and i am not a pacifist.
in this century it would seem we would have plenty of options...

but I would rather be dead than spend an hour in prison. The Death Penalty didn't stop him from killing 48 young women. It doesn't deter anything. Would it satisfy the victims families, probably a little.
Let him rot in prison for the rest of his days. I can think of nothing worse for a person than lockdown for life.

6. Praying that the Lord might smite one's enemies is not new |
|
But it is rather 'Old Testament." Since the advent of Christ, whose teachings were about love, healing and forgiveness, praying for a good smiting has been regarded pretty much as a no-no. So, if he's not a Christian, it may not be an issue for him. And if he is, he may not know how to practice his own religion.
The Death penalty, as I'm given to understand in this case, is not completely and utterly off the table.
I wouldn't mind if it were off the table. But that's another story for another time.

7. morality? doesn't sound like there is any |
|
I'm confident if you pray for someone's death long enough, eventually they will die. Sometimes you may have to be mighty patient.
In my view, if you feel that you are powerful enough to bend God to your will with your prayers, if you were a moral person, you would have prayed for the death or termination of the activities of the Green River killer 20 years ago, when they first came to light, and women were protesting the lack of action in this matter because the victims were runaways or prostitutes. To "me too, I'm praying for his destruction" AFTER the killer is caught is just a cheap publicity stunt and only proves that the radio host is willing to cash in on the dead for cheap entertainment value.
I would suggest that IF your prayers are so powerful, you have a responsibility to look around and ask yourself: Where are there innocent victims of violence? If I pray for so-and-so to die peacefully and quietly tonight in his sleep, will it save the lives of those victims? In other words, I think it is fair to fight to the death to defend your own life or the life of others...but perhaps most of us should be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that our prayers are not the last word on who lives or dies.
Note: It is little acknowledged in this feel-good New Age influenced U.S. but it is probably very poor magical practice to inform the prospective victim of what you are doing, thus giving him the opportunity to counter your magical prayers or spells with actions of his own. Broadcasting to the world one's intention to throw a death spell on someone (even through prayer) is normally a bad idea; why give your opponent information he can use to reflect the death spell back in your direction? Should one ever decide to indulge in magical combat, I suggest keeping the matter a private one between you and your God. In other words, I think the radio host is not just a self-righteous hypocrite; I think he's an untrained idiot as well.

14. if you mean help understanding Prager's viewpoint: |

I have heard him explain this...he believes human life is sacred, and anyone who intentionally takes innocent human life should pay with his/her own... allowing the murderer to live devalues the life of the murdered..

13. I used to be a big supporter of the death penalty, but |
|
as my faith has grown stronger, my revulsion of the death penalty, (and war and other things) has also grown. I am now solidly against the death penalty and hope it will be abolished soon.
Here that, you right-wing so-called 'Christians'?: The stronger my faith in Jesus grows, the more liberal I become! Deal with that!

15. I Don't Support The Death Penalty Because I Am An Atheist |
|
Since there is no after-life... there is no "eternal punishment". In fact, when you execute the convicted person, their punishment comes to an early end. They are dead. They are no longer being punished. They don't care anymore. They are dead.
Also... for Christians who belive that all one needs to do is "accept Jesus" and "ask for forgiveness". Well, let's assume that's accurate... and BINGO the executed convict is now in Heaven. How nice!
Again, punishment over. Pearly gates, clouds, wings, harps, streets of gold.

smug, smirking Bible-thumpers who has all the answers, or thumps his Good Book insisting that it has all the answers. I'm just doing my best to get by. Back when I was a kill, kill, kill death penalty cheerleader, my opinion was, "You can get mercy from God, but from us you must expect JUSTICE". Pretty awful, huh? I'm glad I'm not that way anymore.

He's killed 48 people. He is a danger to society. He needs to be put down. Period.
I won't "pray for his death", but this killer deserves the death penalty.

31. I think it is the more humane thing to do. |
|
Other than that he will die a horrible death at the hands of other prisoners that have nothing to lose. It rids society of a sick person who could kill a helpless victim again, and it will avoid vigilante justice. Okay flame me, but that's how I feel about it until we evolve a more civilized system of dealing with criminal behavior.

18. There is no morality in that statement |
|
Period. To pray for harm to come to someone else is completely against the teachings of Christ.
Yes, I know that's seemingly contradicted elsewhere in the Bible, but I came to the conclusion long ago that much in the Bible is complete and utter bullshit.

really really wrong...not just hateful but evil from a biblical perspective. Which is funny because we've all done it at one time or another in the dark spaces of our own minds.... But as for doing it on the congressionally licensed public airwaves...well that is wrong too.
