Most effective means of self defense without a gun

As kind of a sidenote from the other thread, I've rerun the statistics to determine the best means of self defense without a gun. I was curious about this personally, and thought other people might be too; if you were mugged as Carlos was, what is the best thing to do to prevent injury?

Keep in mind this in terms of injury, as a percentage.
