Kudos to the Chicks, and shame on Toby Keith. What goes around comes around.

You two would get along famously. My hubbie is a big fan of curves on women. He thinks that Bettie Page (the original 36-24-36) was almost too thin. The public perception of what is an acceptable body type has been grossly skewed by television and film. Courtney Thorne Smith left Ally McBeal because she was having too hard a time keeping up with staying as bone-thin as the other women. Body fat is necessary on a woman. It stores estrogen. Without adequate body fate, women are suseptable to all sorts of aliments: heart disease, osteoporosis, and so on.

I also live in Minnesota, where the winters are notoriously cold and cruel. If you don't have an extra layer of fat protection, you're miserable for four months of the year.
You sure as heck don't want to snuggle up to some anorexic on a cold night when you've got four blankets on the bed and your cats are too afraid to peak their heads out from under the covers for fear of getting frostbit. No way. Gimmee a woman with something to hold onto and wrap your arms around. Mmmm-mmmmm......now that's living!

The issue here is Toby Keith, his ignorance and his lack of awards. That Natalie had the gumption to say something about Bush*, then stood up to to CHickenhawk Keith with her t-shirt generates this kind of feedback from you? Please re-think your response - its demeaning to her, its demeaning to women, and it adds nothing worthwhile to any discourse on the Keith topic.
on edit - I think she's pretty hot, personally.

... such as my friend in Alabama with a hound dog, a gunrack on his well-used Ford pickup truck, Old Glory decals in the windows, and a bumper sticker on the back of that battered pickup that says "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS / IMPEACH BUSH." He's a good ol' boy who loves hunting, camping, target shooting, campaigned for Bill Clinton, and is leaning toward Clark ("Hey, you gotta pull for the home team...."). He's also a fan of the Dixie Chicks and Phish (yes, they have their Southern fans too).
Fact is, our party needs progressive Redneck sh!tkicker good ol' boys in favor of unions, single-payer health, and better Veterans' benefits -- bring 'em on!

...except they're farmers in southern Minnesota. Not only that, they organized for farmers unions in the 70s and 80s, when agribusiness first started putting the hurt on family farmers. They're my kind of people-- down-home, no-nonsense, friendly, hard-working, do-anything-for-you types who'd give you the shirt of their back (even if it was the only one they had) if they thought you needed it worse than they did. One of the reasons I married into the family I guess! :D
Give me them over the limousine liberal trial lawyer types any day of the week.
And I can see the Phish affection, too-- Phish, like the Dead, have a country/southern rock element in their music. Not so much Charlie Daniels as Allman Brothers, who were notorious for their extended jams. Which is part of the reason it's so popular, and so addictive.

Really, after Sting sold out "every breath you take" to Puffy, I'm not in the least surprised by this. But exactly how was he to know 5 years ago that this tow-headed cretin would become, as EW terms him, "AMerica's Angriest Redneck"?

57. It depends on your publishing arrangement |
|
If you, the songwriter, also control your publishing rights (or the publishing company who owns the publishing rights), you can keep FULL control over who can/cannot record your song. However, most people who do this don't make as much money on royalties and residuals, as they don't let any ad agency use their stuff to sell breakfast cereal and underwear.
If, however, you have sold your publishing rights to a publishing company, you usually have no control over who uses your song and for what purpose. Most young songwriters do this, mainly because the publishers tend to pay decent money for songs. And, if you're just starting out, you need any money you can get so you don't have to work at Dairy Queen to pay the rent.
I've got a little experience in this area, and I've chosen to "self-publish" my songs, which means I control 100% their use and re-use. I'm not doing it full time, so I haven't relicensed my songs much and subsequently have not made a lot of money at it.
So far, my songs have appeared on a self-released CD by my band, and a 30-second loop of one song appeared on a commercial website (for which I made a whopping $500, which I split with the other two guys in my band). However, I've seen other people get burned in publishing deals and I really have no desire to go that route. :)

The CMA are just another bunch of whores doing the same damn thing. They loved good ol' Toby when the iron was hot for the war but since it is beginning to cool off they went for the sure thing............a dead icon, Johnny Cash and a guy that is very hard to dislike, Alan Jackson. They are still the same CMA that dissed the Dixie Chicks. They are still all whores.
