Am I the only one indifferent to the Matrix hype?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-03 08:53 PM by ZombyWoof
Never seen any of them, probably never will. Duuuuude, Keanu man. They just appear soulless and effects-laden eye candy. Hey, I could be wrong, but...

My gut tells me not to believe the hype (about anything), and my gut has NEVER lied to me when it comes to popular culture.

(I haven't seen SweetZombieJesus around lately, and although he may be a Matrix fan for all I know, I felt the Lounge needed a GrumpyZombyThread.)

Btw, I DO love LOTR, and am awaiting that with much more eagerness. :P

Edit: The love of my life and my AZ family love the Matrix, so I bear the burden of dissent in real life too.

10. No, we just got them... some kinds it don't take... but welcome
to DU...

I am adversely affected by advertising for "hits" the more ads I see, the longer I wait to see the movie.

Have yet to see Porky's, which was one of the first "hyped" movies.

You ain't missin' a DAMN thing. Saw it in junior high on cable with friends, and I don't think any of us were that impressed.

34. Yeah, I figured as much.
Same goes for lots of other movies they have tried to cram down my throat. The more I hear of it, the less I am inclined to ever see it. The Matrix Revisited is getting there, even though I saw the first Matrix and liked it.

I'm not even intrigued enough to rent the damn things. The idea just isn't appealing.

I have not seen any Matrix movies so I have no comments on that subject, but Lord of the Rings is a different story, Viggo sends me to the moon!!

PS: I'm from AZ, too.

8. Nope -- me either.
Haven't seen any of them and, although I like sci-fi, just have no interest in them. I don't why, the hype and trailers just don't appeal to me.

I'm anxiously awaiting LOTR Return of the King and Shrek II. Shrek: now that was a great movie!

I guess we all have our own filters for what we like, even in genres we have lots of affection for.

I never saw Shrek, but I have no problem with it. :hi:

19. If you like LOTR there's no reason you shouldn't like the Matrix
Eventually, I'll own both trilogies, the extended versions that cost like $500.

21. Finally saw the first one a little while ago
Thought it was okay - just okay - but it never 'grabbed' me. Don't care if I ever see it again, let alone any of its sequels. Won't avoid them, actvely, but won't seek them out, either.

I could probably stand to see it, or any of them, but just don't see it being in the Top 100, nor the Bottom 100. But now that I have held out this long, I want to keep the streak alive, lol.

Btw, I love your sig pics. :D

23. I'm sceee...eeerd...
what happened!...

The first Matrix movie was great...and I read somewhere that Joseph Campbell was one of the "consultants"...and then he died. When viewing the second movie, I kept in mind that they no longer had his expertise and that this was the middle child so a step child so to speak...but still a strong lineage!...but, it could have been better.

Is this a solilqualy of a metaphor of third generation nepotism...without an anchor, without a compass, free-fall?...trying to pass?

I don't know, I haven't seen the movie yet. But, the second disappointed. Has this series been co-opted someway?

Is there no way around the crap of Hollywood, anymore?

25. I am a Joseph Campbell fan
And that is interesting to know about his involvement in the first movie.

I also have noticed that with most trilogies (Godfather or Star Wars come to mind), the third one is usually the weakest.

And finally (and yes, generally), I have also noticed that even diehard fans of the first Matrix movie were mixed in their opinions on the second one, and trying their damndest to like the new one, even as many do NOT like it. So even the hype gets to the fans, and not just the grumps like me.

I'm with you Zomby..I'm looking forward to that new one I just seen advertise with TommyLee..."Missing" didn't catch the whole title or it just may be that. Looks like he's playing a good Indian and helping tract the the daughter missing with some scary mystery of who took her.

Looks like a good western!

27. IF you absolutely hate Keanu
this is him at his worst.

I guess to remain socially relevant I'll watch the first one again, but I found it stupidly pretentious and redundant the first time.

That story has been done before, but the younger folks don't know it.

28. Never seen any either.....
Some day.... if there is absolutely nothing else to be rented at Blockbusters, or if I go visit one of those friends/relatives who convey their perceived self-worth via a record breaking wide screen entertainment set-up, I may see it.... Ok, ok, maybe I'm just jealous of those who spend more than I will on a house to feed heir multimedia habit, but there you have it...!

If I have to spend $9 to see a movie, it sure as hell ain't gonna be on some effects-laden thing from Hollywood! Instead, I'll go to to Cinestudio at Trinity College when they (hopefully!) get "Uncovered" (a new documentary about the Bush Junta's lies regarding Iraq) and "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" (another new documentary, this one about the April 2002 coup in Venezuela).
