3. without a doubt
NYC is the greatest city to visit, just not sure I would want to live there. But I loved the time I spent there in January. It has so much energy.
Lived near Frankfurt for several years, but never got to Berlin. I would love to go to Greece, but I think the place I most want to visit is Dublin.:toast:

4. I live in a "city" of 8,000 people
Living in a small town in the mountains of WV, I went to Morgantown, WV recently and thought I was in a metropolis.

U.S. favorites: NYC, Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans (Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are OK as well). I've had limited travel on the West Coast.

City I want to visit the most: London

35. Mine's smaller
Actually, I live in the country. The closest gas station is about 6 miles away. But I did go to elementary school in a metropolis of 150, so I almost got citified before I lived in Phoenix, Boston, or New York.

I wised up and came back to the bluegrass.

41. Rural Life
I grew up in New Orleans and lived in Atlanta and DC but find that small town life suits me now. I think when you're younger city life is interesting. It's fairly cheap to live here but then you don't earn much either. There are benefits to country living but I like a small town so I can walk most places, it's good to run into the Mayor and do some bitching.

I do enjoy my visits to cities, especially the great variety of food and restaurants and just seeing so many people.

Just got back from first trip to New Orleans just had a great time. The food was outstanding, architecture, cities of the dead...loved it! Friendly people proud of their city were in abundance.

on edit for Yankees: up here, we pronounce it Noo Ore leens, heavy on the Ore.

*sigh* edit for spelling

6. Paris is my favorite, (I may move there in the next 5 years)
Then NYC and San Francisco as a tie. Paris is the best place I have ever been. The first time I went there I got off the train from the Airport and it was like coming home. I can't explain how arriving someplace for the first time can feel like coming home--but it did.

18. I feel at home in Paris, too
I immediately knew how to get around the city intuitively. I'm not a believer in past lives, but if ever there was a place I'd been before, it was PAris.

7. Don't get to travel much
so when I do it's usually just day trips or overnight. As many times as I've been to DC I still love it, even with the lump and her husband living there 4 days a week.

Go to Richmond fairly often but wouldn't put that on my list of favorite places it's just convenient and I have family there.
Always have a good time when I go to Baltimore or Atlanta.

14. I love Vancouver, BC
But dislike cities in general. I'd have to go with San Francisco, as well. I like Atlanta and New Orleans, can't stand Orlando, had a great time in San Antonio, Chicago and New York.

I absolutely despise Anchorage. It thinks it's a baby LA and it ain't!

Small city/towns like Whitehorse and Dawson City in the Yukon Territory are great, too.

But give me good old Fox, Alaska with the Howlin' Dog and Silver Gulch brewery!

21. DC
I enjoy going to DC (my bro lives there) its a great city. Chicago is a great place too. I didn't really like NYC much when I've been there, but it has been a while since my last visit.

I really enjoyed Vancouver BC when I was there. In Europe you can't beat London and Paris. Amsterdam has its good points too (cough, cough) & Edinborough is a surprisingly beautiful city.

Melbourne & Brisbane are also high on my list, but unfortunately I didn't get to spend any time in Sydney when I was Down Under.

24. In the
U.S., I'd go for New York, Boston, San Francisco, Honolulu, and New Orleans.

In Canada, Vancouver and Toronto.

I haven't been to Europe since I was in high school, so I'll pass on that, but in Japan, I love Tokyo and also have warm feelings for Nara, Himeji, Nagano, Kanazawa, and Nagasaki. Kyoto is okay, but outside the designated historic areas, it's quite a mess. My favorite place to visit in China was Beijing, simply because it has all the historical monuments and great food, but Shanghai was also fascinating, with its mixture of Chinese and pre-World War II Western architecture.

I dislike the typical Sun Belt cities with their suburban look. Chongqing in China is a pit, and much of Osaka, Japan, is unrelieved concrete jungle.

Okay, I've never been to ANY of those places, but have any of you guys ever been to Raton, NM. Well, that doesn't really count as a city but thats where I'm from. It consists of like 9000 people and maybe a few horses. LOL, but since I grew up there I guess thats why I like to visit there so much. In the fall it smells like fire places and rain, as weird as that sounds, and in the summer it smells like fresh cut grass and hay. I guess you could say I like to go there and reminisce. ;)

ZombyDomestic:

Seattle (my former home is much better to visit than to live in)
Chicago (been many years, but the memories stay strong)
San Diego (my birthplace, not that I am biased)
Portland (just for Powell's books, otherwise, ehhhh)
Sedona (my AZ family and that red rock energy!)

ZombyExport:

Cordoba, Spain (the Moorish capital of pre-1492 Spain, beautiful ancient architecture)
Morelia, Mexico (the Spanish colonial capital of Mexico)
Victoria, B.C. (high tea anyone? A great way to spend 12-24 hours if you're in the northwest)
