The ghetto--The rustbelt versus the sunbelt
The sunbelt ghetto actually has nice lawns, clean houses, and businesses.

The rustbelt ghetto has nothing but boarded up houses and liquour stores.

The ghetto is hard to find in sunbelt America.

1. BS
I've seen MANY ghetto areas in sunbelt cities. Hell Salt Lake City is 'sun belt' and we've got some pretty bad ghettos. Ever been to Houston, LA, Atlanta? Miami? They've got some pretty bad areas too.

3. I don't know
I'd argue that he has a point (although I despise the use of the word 'ghetto' in this context but still.) impoverished urban areas in the north, especially the rust belt area, look completely different than those in the sprawl of the sun belt. Certainly, there are areas of say, Los Angeles, that look as bad, on first blush as say, certain parts of New York. but if you got off the highway in Compton, you wouldn't neccesarily know it by the houses and whatnot. sure, the lawns aren't as manicured as those in Brentwood, and the houses are smaller, but it looks like a working class neighborhood. Bed-Stuy, in it's heyday, didn't look anything like a working class neighborhood, it was flat out armpit of manhattan.

make no mistake, looks can be decieving, but a row of suburban houses tends to look nicer than a group of run down row houses. my opinion, only.

4. The junk car lot
down the road from me has some very nice vines and trees growing in and around the cars. Nice grass too. Covers up the rust and rotting tires.

I'm in a rurual area, btw.

5. Perhaps the dumbest generalization you've made.
Cut it out!
