Poll question: How Do You Feel About the Lakers? |

I hate them. More than any other sports team, ever.

1. Why should I hate the Lakers? |
|
They work hard. So an individual player on their team as issues of character.
I mean, I respect them for displaying an enormous amount of talent (however, sometimes it is luck)

That guy needs to get smacked. In general, I just hate them because they're just like the Yankees- only the best team money can buy.

that Rick Fox looks like George Clooney. I still mock him mercilessly for that. :)
I hate the Lakers for the same reason you do. I hate them more than the Yankees because the Twins hardly ever have a chance against them, but the T'Wolves usually get bounced out of the first round by The Best Team Money Can Buy.

8. Oh please. Like actors and pop stars are any better? |
|
Are Madonna, Michael Jackson or The geriatric freakin *Eagles* worth $100 a ticket?
They are *entertainers*. They are paid to *entertain*.
Is driving around in a circle really fast any better? Or getting paid to look pretty?
Would is be better if all pro atheletes were unpaid and all the money went to the multi-billionaire owners instead?
Feh.

23. I didn't say they were any better. However... |
|
...teh sins of another person do not justify the sins in yourself.
NOw, having worked in a concert hall once upon a time, the Eagles may not be worth $100 per ticket, but teh people setting up teh stage, tearing it down, cleaning the hall et. al. are worth part of that $100
In answer to your last question it would be better if neither group hasd that money and were forced to work a regular job in addition to playing their childrens game.

what are we to do to enjoy ourselves? Maybe you could dictate to us what we like to watch and partake of and what we don't. Or, maybe, no enjoyment of anything is allowed! Yes! We must all sit around and watch the news, 24 hours a day! Let's all lose any sense of humor we might have! Humor is dangerous! Enjoying life and having fun are for freepers only!
Tell me, is there any particular need you feel to shit on every sports thread that comes up in the Lounge? If you don't like it, ignore them.

Again, show me where I said that all jocks are dumb. Never did bitch about jocks in HS or college. Not unless it is shown where they are getting special treatment in the grading process becasue of their place on teh team.
You dislike my opinion and then attempt to denegrate me. That's about typical of you. How about attempting to debate the issue instead? Start by making a valid counterpoint to my statement.

BTW you ask where did you call all athletes dumb? You said they are monkeys at the zoo putting on a show for their betters. Not exactly "they are all dumb" but the jist is the same.

Now, you ask a question I'll answer it. The question asked in teh thread was "How do you feel about the Lakers". I do believe that in a free country I am allowed to answer a question which is asked of me, no?
Your freeper comment is, of course, uncalled for and rather silly.

The whole system is overpriced and produces very little of any real value that can't be replaced much more effectively and cheaply by another source.

|
but if you consider "yes it is" a valid counter point so be it.
The whole system may seem overpriced to you but bieng that it continues to sell tickets and advertising with little problem it seems your opinion is of no consequence. As for replacing it of course you can replace it. All entertainment can be replaced but why would you want to? Sports are great to play and watch. Nothing like cheering your nation in the World Cup, or holding your breath for a last second field goal attempt in a packed stadium. It sucks that you just get over smug ideas of what adults should be doing and just enjoy it.

In fact there are things that surpass sports for the things you mention.
Your entire argument seems to be devolving into the old conservative rant about "only if it brings in the money does it has value." Let me ask you this question then. how much is your continued good health worth? A good education for your children? A cure for that nasty bout of cancer that statistics say you are going to have to deal with someday?

32. They are not overpaid by a business standpoint |
|
Depending what sport it is Owners make over 100 million in income a year from ticket prices, merchandise, consessions, etc but it is the players the fans are comming to see, the athletes are the ones making millions for the owner. So if they are making 40,000 a year but the owner is making 200 million I would think the athletes are underpaid. The owners get tv contracts, stadium sponsorships, I can go on so I think the athletes should get a share of that money, after all it is the athletes the fans are comming to see. Plus every game creates in most sports creates about 500 jobs for the people ranging from security, people who clean up the stadium, the concession sellers I can go on. Think about how much the owners are making before you say the athletes are overpaid, you see no fans buying jerseys with the name "Bidwell" on the back but he is the one making the most money from the Cardinal games. He pays 54 players, his staff, and coaches large wages but still makes over 100 million.

41. Like I said. The entire system is overpriced. |
|
The owners are paid entirely too much too.
They play a game for a living and make millions.
People who actually do something important or produce something make less than 40,000.
IMO pro sports is a grand waste of a lot of thing. Money is simply the most aggregious offense.

7. Liked them from the moment Magic joined the team. |
|
Loved the Show Time fast break. The unstoppable Sky Hook. The James Worthy thunder dunks. Coop in the "knee-highs" shooting threes. Kurt Rambis with blood dripping down his face from fighting for rebounds. The amazing artistry of the no-look pass. The lacquered hair. Could have done without the "fan-ebrity", courtside silliness, but hey, it *is* LA.
Appreciated that Byrd, McHale, Parrish and Boston were equally good. Loved hating the brusing "east coast" style, smash-mouth defense and "goofy white boy" offense. But the *shots*, OMG, the shots that dropped.
Hated seeing both Scott and Magic pull up lame against the Bulls. Grinned and bore it during the post-Magic, pre-Shaq days of the early 90's.
Love Kobe's killer instinct, if not his shot selection. Can't stand Shaq's graceless low-post moves but I'm glad he's a Laker and that I don't have to guard him. Three in a row is no accident. Kobe, Shaq, Karl and Gary is just *STOOPID*. Phil may be a zengeek but he's got more rings than god.
The West is ridiculous compared to the East and watching the best of the West duke it out is as good as professional basketball gets. (Really, really tired of NBA hyping "the next Jordan"... I've been listening to that for 15 years now)
The Lakers/Spurs game last night was *fierce*. Manu stepped up and it was hard to tell it wasn't a playoff game.

I hate the lakers idiotic, childish, bandwagon jumping, message board flooding fans.
I have no problem with the lakers team, or anyone on the lakers team.
Shaq does get away with a lot of uncalled offensive fouls, but that is the refs fault, not shaqs fault.

I may not want to spend a dinner with each and every one of them, but as a basketball fan they give me the thrill of the game. That's all I can ask of them - their personal business is their own.

|
Even though I rooted against them except when they played the Celtics in the finals. This group, however, is difficult to appreciate. The Jordan Rules pale in comparison to the calls and lack of calls that give Shaq the ability to remain in games and score at will. The egos are ridiculous. There would be no Shaq vs. Kobe baloney if that weren't true. I dig Malone and Payton, but I wish they would have gone to San Antonio, New Jersey, Sacramento, Dallas, or anywhere else to get their rings.
