We Just Took Our 5 yo Son to See "March of the Penguins"! |
|
Great family movie. Our son hardly blinked, we enjoyed it and I'd listen to Morgan Freeman read my shopping list!
If you have little ones, GO!

1. Are there any sad parts? |
|
I hate it when animals die in movies. I know it's real life, but I just can't take it.

2. You're not the only one. |
|
As an animal/nature lover, I adore the first half of Bambi. They should release a special edit of that film that ends right before the scene that shall not be named occurs.

7. They die, eggs are cracked and frozen, birds kill babies as do sea |
|
lions or seals (?) (I forget which)
But no death is shown on screen - the attack may be shown - as well as the seal/sea lion open mouth/teeth and a distance shot of bird in mouth -
The "violence" will go over the head of the 5 and under, and the 6 and older see worse on TV. Unlike Bambi, no one points out that there has been a death.
The things drips with cute - great family movie although lack of any "real violence" may turn off the teenage crowd.

8. Sad, But Not Explicit! |
|
A penguin who starts his journey late doesn't make it, a leopard seal gets a mother penguin and a seagull gets a chick, an old penguin lies down to die and some chicks don't survive.
There is nothing DETAILED, and nothing upset our son, so I'd say its safe! BTW, I'm 50 and still cry at the end of "The Yearling"!

3. Well Morgan Freeman seems to narrate everything... |
|
...so I'm sure coming to a theater near you will be "Morgan Freeman narrates MarianJack's Shopping List"
However, it was a wonderful movie - I just loved those penguins

|

To say: "SOLD!!!!!!!!"
To Think: "WOW! They have more money than brains! Maybe they'll run for a gop nomination!"

5. Step-daughter's dad will not take her |
|
because the movie mentions MATING!
She's 9 yrs old. Even she is smart enough to realize "But it's BIRDS mating! It's not like it rhinos or something."
Pathetic. Her mom is going with her tonight.

13. We Saw Many People In the Theater Without Kids! |
|
We saw a family of (apparently) 2 parents, a grand parent and a 15ish teen girl and they were all walking like penguins on their way out to their car!

15. The first thing I thought when I heard about this movie: |
|
Why not use it to promote environmentalism?
Picture it.. a simple nationwide billboard campaign, where there's a cute, cute, cute baby penguin next to the phrase, "Please, on November 2nd, protect my family."
It might be cute enough to work.. :P
