Jake Morgendorffer: Compelling!!!

All that rage hidden beneath the goofy, flaky, clueless, good-guy exterior. Of course, sometimes the rage and anxiety aren't hidden so well, and comes bubbling out in bursts of manic energy at the BEST moments.

Jake is the most compelling character in animated reruns outside of anyone on the Simpsons or Futurama.

Join Zomby in the Cult Of Jake!!!

Quotes:

Jake: "Why don't they just put Marmaduke to sleep?"

Jake: “Well, I know how it can be, being driven from your childhood home. Even if it was a dark, depressing place, the air thick with oppression, and the constant threat
of . . .”
Jane: (holds up folded napkin) “Look! A ducky!”
Jake: “Hey, neat!”

Jake - "What did the doctor tell you about cheese, Jake? What did the doctor tell you about cheese, Jake?" Why can't a man come home from a hard day's work and enjoy a lousy taco without it turning into... hey, you know, it's the darndest thing! I can't feel my arm! (starts wheezing)
Daria - Dad?
Jake - Blurk... (flops face-first into guacamole)
Quinn - Daddy?
Jake - Mom's... going to miss... the guacamole... (collapses again)
Helen - Jakey! (drops phone)

3. I said the same thing!
It needs to be out on DVD! The N Channel cuts the good lines out.

10. I didn't realize that they were cutting lines....
you must have an internal database of the lines to have recognized that.

11. They hack out the more racy stuff.
A few Sick Sad Worlds get cut out.

"They bake cookies by day, but things really heat up at night! G-String Grandmas, next on Sick Sad World!"

12. They also changed the end of the episode where Daria and Jane babysit
It ends with the kids singing an alternative version of one of the record songs about self esteem. On NOG, they just go right to the credits.

13. You can get some....

The first seven episodes of Daria are on video. The two movies (Is it Fall Yet? and Is it College Yet?) are on DVD, with episode extras.

Even though MTV parent company Viacom is evil -- and gutless -- the way to get more Daria is to buy the current Daria stuff, and write to Paramount Home Video.

The online petition to get Daria on DVD : http://the-wildone.com/dvdaria . There are other peititons to get it onto satellite cable uncut again....but from what our inquiries to MTV amount to, there are no plans for further DVDs or taking Daria off of The N and giving it to, say, Adult Swim.

I'm glad I got word of this board...I'm a life-long Democrat from a family of Democrats who grew up in the most Republican county in the midwest....

2. I LOVE Daria
I soooo was Daria, only a guy of course, and maybe a little more social. But anyway, that show totally hits the nail on the head so to speak concerning highschool cliquism and whatnot, and it's 100% fantastic!

4. Daria was aweome
The best episode I think.. is the one where Jake is stressing out really bad and so the family goes camping in the woods. Hilarity ensues. :P

6. I'm down with that.
My favourite Daria character is Andrea, the goth chick, but Jake is probably one of my favourite main characters.

"Well, Daria, you get up and get out. You move to another state, get a new ID. It's not too late, Daria! You're still a young man, get out while you still can!!"

Horribly paraphrased, but the idea is there.

9. I have that episode on a tape somewhere.
Daria: This record is shot. Why don't you ask your parents for the CD?
Kid: Compact discs were forced upon consumers in an effort to maximize record company profits.
Daria: That's important for a seven year old to know.
