Another thing: do not ever call me "feisty" |
|
I hate that...to me it comes off as very condescending.

9. No worries. I'd never call you either one. |
|
I was just being kind of a smart ass. And feel free to call me a smart ass. I deserve it sometimes.

3. Hi there, my dear KitchenWitch... |
|
I wouldn't dream of calling you such a name! It doesn't however, strike me as condescending...It just seems inappropriate to me..for you! It does work, though, on some people...Not you, or me!

|
uh, one nice person, I'll tell you that. :)
Ok, so why do you feel it comes off condescending? Because, it implies that you're a fighter, but not one that somebody needs to worry about losing to? That's what I think of when I heard that word. As an athlete anyway. When I'd here that another wrestler was feisty it was sort of a code word that they didn't back down but weren't all that difficult to beat. Just my experience. I was curious at your take on it. Since you find it condescending and all.

I was (years and years ago) involved with a fundie (and became one myself for a time) and the word feisty was used to put women in their place (as submissive to men). If you were called feisty, it meant that you were not complying with your proper role as a woman.

that would work. Almost like the way some men use the word "opinionated." It's a metaphor for being difficult. Psh, I myself like a woman to be strong and independent myself. Who wants a slave? Give me someone who is intelligent, ambitious and tough anyday. That's one thing that makes love and life interesting, imho.
Have you ever watched the movie "Giant" directed by George Stevens? It's a classic. Elizabeth Taylor plays an opinionated strong Eastern woman who marries a wealthy cowboy rancher, played by Rock Hudson. The males sort of try to pull the good ol' boy stuff on her and she is not having any of it. It's got a lot of layers to the film, but one layer to it is that she is sort of a feminist dealing with a very submissive misogynistic culture. It's a great film.

I would never dream of calling anyone Missy, unless that was their name, and even then I would prefer to call them Melissa.

10. When I was 10 years old.... |
|
I complained to my english teacher about....something (I can't remember) and somehow our conversation became heated on my side. I got a bit angry, and the teacher just smiled wanly and said "Oh, my little rebel!" in a total snoogums/shmoopie condescending voice.
I got then a little taste of what paternalism must feel like to women: No beefs are legitimate, all which emits from one's mouth is cuter than the Dickens, etc.
Ick.
And "feisty" is a lot like that moment.
