Poll question: Who is the hottest cartoon woman?
I've excluded anthromorphic animals from the list.

30. Why?
Is there a real reason for thinking one term is offensive and the other is not? They are both made-up words anyway. Is it a case of fans who just don't have enough to do so they worry about stuff like this instead; kind of like a Kirk vs. Picard debate?

33. It's a percieved ignorance of the "anime culture" I think
I don't really know since I'm not a part of "the culture", but Anime is considered the correct term, and people who say Japanimation are considered ignorant of the culture I guess.

Plus the possible perception of it as somewhat of a racial slur of sorts, like Richardo mentioned.

38. Ah-ha!
Well, I guess I am ignorant of the anime "culture." I am also ignorant of the Klingon language, pro sports history and the origins of Aquaman. I guess I always thought anime was a $10 word for a cartoon movie and that "Japanimation" distinquished Japanese cartoons from Disney, Bugs Bunny and Saturday morning crap.

Anyway, Japanese is a nationality, not a race. The fact that some people pronounce Japanimation with the accent on the first three letters doesn't make it the same as the slang term used in WWII which, by the way, grew out of a news headline abreviation. I remember in the '80s how some papers abreviated everything. "Ron, Gorby talk on nukes."

42. Okay, then let me rephrase...
There's the possible perception of it being used as an ethnic slur. That better? I never said it was "the same as the slang term used in WWII", I said it could be percieved as though it was.

And look at it this way: It's like calling a snowboard a "skiboard" or calling every video game system "Nintendo". These things are entrenched well enough in mainstream popular culture that anyone who pays attention would know the proper names. It's not like anime is an uncommon thing, so when someone calls it Japanimation, it's usually just a sign that they have no idea what they're talking about.

And why do I even care about this? Call it Japanimation all you liike, because this is seriously the most pointless argument I've ever had, haha.

37. Jap-animation. Like "afro-engineering"
A big term where I grew up, sadly. I don't like words with "clever" racial puns built into them, even if that's not how the person is using it.
